Snippets from PD's press conference this morning
« on July 24, 2014, 09:58:52 am by Wade Falana »
Got a mate who works for the press, just rung me.

PD doubts we'll see Richie in a Rovers shirt again, hopes to keep Copps but doubtful.
Clarke still in his thoughts
Ashdown gone
Williams/Evina still on trial

Going with a mix of youth and a few experienced pros (Jones, Furman etc)
Building for the future, seems to like McCullough and Wakefield

Couldn't blame Bailey or Turnbull for going, got offered decent contracts we couldn't match. We had offered Turnbull terms

Wouldn't be drawn on using the loan market.

"Building for the future....". In layman's terms that means "We haven't a 'Cat in Hells' chance of doing anything this season in fact, we could even be looking at another relegation battle but......all the time it's as I told you, we're building for the future".

Doesn't that contradict the latest statement from TB?

If we get a team that has 4 or 5 loan players, will that then be enough to show bramalls statement to be just spin?

No, it may be a cost effective way of strengthening the squad alongside the development of young players with experienced pros, some of the latter could be loanees.

Wellens has further poisoned the atmosphere with his bottom of League 1 comments . He is ertainly not a motivator of young team mates nor an inspirational captain .. He's become just a bitter veteran  at end of career.

No real surprises as far as I can see.

If your playing budget is going to be slashed from £4-4.5m to a figure of (hopefully) a third of that then the whole model needs to be reviewed.

Dickov knows what he's got to do - it's just that he's about 6 weeks behind every other manager in the division - so now's the time for him to pull in all those 'favours' and contacts that he's meant to have. Let's see.

It doesn't sound too good for a 'return to the Championship'.

I still fail to see how the budget would've been bigger with JR in charge though. I think the world of JR, but without hanging on his every word, there's no evidence that he'd be able to deliver this massive budget. Barring a plan to bring in external investors post-takeover that is, but it's never actually been said that was the plan.

No indeed. He didn't have the liquid assets to buy the club, according to the FL, and his plan for the future was colander-like - again, according to the FL. LT said that he'd been misled about the Crowdfunder, and that the TO was dependent on it. And that failed to raise the money.

I'm not doubting JR's passion, commitment and love of the club, but you have to wonder where the readies to support this 'better team than last season' were coming from. The only logical conclusion is that it wasn't going to happen.

Is this him engineering a move away from DRFC having missed the window to activate a release clause?

No, he can activate his release clause at any point up to the 31st of August, according to PD.

So if PD has to get in 4/5 loaners in, how on this earth is that building a 'successful' squad over many seasons.

If we lose husband, then it will completely contradict building a squad for the future.

There's 2 contradictions is what TB is saying

4/5 loanees would only represent say 20% of the first team squad, meaning the remaining 80% would be contracted players, hopefully over several seasons.

Where is TB or PD saying that Husband will go?  Surely if we get a great offer we could use the money to buy/develop several more (say 3) future "Husbands"?

I can't see any contradictions, you're just putting your opinions over.

I don't remember PD mentioning loans at all. I do remember PD saying something about this whole ideal of developing youth players will take time... Which we all know it will. It all seemed fairly balanced to me. Again, you can - and probably should - take it with a pinch of salt/wait to see what actually happens, but still...

No, it may be a cost effective way of strengthening the squad alongside the development of young players with experienced pros, some of the latter could be loanees.

The main crux of the statement was they want to move away from building sides on a yearly basis.
Therefore a number of loan signings wouldn't follow that plan

If they don't want to build a side on a yearly basis we have to give out slightly longer contracts and have faith in our players. No relegation clauses that mean they can walk away.

As I said in another answer, 4/5 loanees is no more than 20% of the squad, leaving 80% to be filled by other players...

So it's Wellens just saying "Come and get me" then.

A guesstimate Hoola, albeit based on the budgets that the likes of Yeovil and Tranmere have worked too over the last couple of seasons. In fact in Tranmere's case it went down to just over £1m last year which really is bones of yer arse - L2/Conf - stuff.

Also, am I right in thinking that our budget under Saunders a couple of years ago was £2m although this got upped when it was apparent that we were in with a genuine shout of promotion.

For me, the key is reference to youth and loanees. It can be made to come across as tremendously spirited and adventurous but to me it can be more a euphemism for cheap and hopeful. At least in Flynn, Horton and Dickov we have seasoned football types who know what to look for in a player.
