BobG I am assuming you are saying Steve Uttley was a bad apple because he supported JR.  If so then no surprise there seeing as the VSC have an anti JR agenda.

1. The VSC don't have an anti JR agenda. That's utter nonsense.
2. Bob isn't a VSC official so it is wrong to interpret his opinions as representative of the VSC.

This is how things get twisted, people get something in their head, spout it on social media and the next thing it's gained that much momentum it's taken by the gullible as gospel

Madbadrob

All the 'leaks' I hear have never come from Steve and in fact Steve used to get annoyed when we 'broke' information he was lining up for the press days before he could.  The leaks come from much lower down the pay line than where Steve was.

I'm interested to know who "we" is in this context. Do you mean this forum, or somewhere else?

In reply to madbadrob-stating "we the fans decided that in the 14th minute etc."-Now i am a fan of many years and always sit behind the goal in the South stand and NO ONE asked me or any one near me to stand up and chant "There is only one Steve Uttley ! "
I do not know Mr.Uttley ,know of him, yes, but could not chant his name without knowing all the facts about his redundancy details .Also for mbr to suggest this subject is some sort of vsc dissemination is so senseless that it is beyond the realms of fantasy.

I think it's time to break my silence as I cannot stand by and read the garbage that the ODD person is spouting on here regarding Steve Uttley. I can shed some light on the reasons behind Steve being vindictively chucked on the scrap heap. I know Steve better than most having known the man since he joined the club 14 years ago, He was a Rovers man through and through. He was always first in the office in the mornings and last out at night, he worked tirelessly for this club and its fans. Along with Tony Bluff wrote many a book about Rovers history, every week you only had to open the Free Press to see photo's courtesy of Steve Uttley.  Steve gave up enormous
amounts of his own time to help any fan who required help to raise funds for a lost love one or charity. He attended every home and away game some times getting home in the early hours often frozen or wet through while is superiors were tucked up in their nice cosy beds. Steve worked hard on the RTID programme often winning the award for best programme in the North.
He was much more than just a photographer, he did an awful lot of work for the manager and playing squad who I can say were absolutely gutted that he was leaving. For a man who did so much for this club and it's fans it is a disgrace that there has been no statement from them on the official website thanking him for his service and wishing him well. It is also a disgrace that they decided to make a small presentation to him behind closed doors and not on the pitch on Saturday
so the fans could show their appreciation. You can draw your own conclusions as to why. The only reason we have been given for Steve's redundancy is one of cost cutting. Absolute rubbish he has gone the same way as others before him have gone because he was connected to the old regime and he will not be the last. There were staff set on in the last six months that have taken over jobs that Steve did, these could easily have been got rid of cheaper ie:- no redundancy to pay. Also if the club are cost cutting why are they taking delivery of nice new Mercedes Benz Cars
for the New secretary and other senior staff. The fact that Steve worked on the crowdfunding venture was because he was told to do so as would any employee. With regards to leaks I can only repeat what someone else said they did not come from him as you will discover Steve has gone but the leaks will continue. Steve was probably the only person in that office who knew what he was doing and you can expect a much poorer service now he is not there. I must stress that his manager Shaun Lockwood had no part in Steve's departure and is also angry at his leaving. With regards to the display on 14 minuets for Steve on Saturday I am sorry you didn't all get a personal invitation but it was posted for several days on the official Rovers facebook page as well as by word of mouth to as many fans as possible at the ground. I would like to thank the person who called me a young man as it was me holding up the flag and I am 64. and my older chap with the glasses is half my age. It was hoped that by starting a chant others would join in. It did not go unnoticed by Steve and he was very grateful.  For those of you who did not know of Steve Uttley fair enough but I promise you one thing you will know he's gone.

The one thing I've never understood (which you referenced, Derek) was the fact that official Rovers photos were always credited as "courtesy of Steve Uttley". Does this mean that he owned the copywrite on them? SUrely if he was a paid employee of the club he would have taken the pics on their behalf and they would remain the property of DRFC.

Am I reading this wrong or could it be that the club wanted to take control of their own media assets?

No agenda here, just wondering.

It is common practice that the copyright for all photographs belongs to the photographer. However in cases where the photographer is employed by a football club the photographer gives permission for the pictures to be unreservedly used by their employer and the football league. I will give you an example you hire a photographer to do your wedding You pay him to do it so by employing him. However the photographs he takes are his copyright not yours and you cannot reproduce them without his permission. You will also see that in the Free Press and other papers, magazines etc:- That they will always say pictures courtesy of ........... although they will have paid for the photographer to work for them. Hope this clears that up for you.

Yes I get that when you hire a freelance, Derek but I thought it would be different with a club employee. I wonder if the same applies to Arsenal, Man Utd. Etc? I can't see them letting an employee hold copywrite over their images but I may be mistaken. And in the wrong trade!

This should answer it.

Who owns the copyright on photographs?
Under law, it is the photographer who will own copyright on any photos he/she has taken, with the following exceptions:

If the photographer is an employee of the company the photos are taken for, or is an employee of a company instructed to take the photos, the photographer will be acting on behalf of his/her employer, and the company the photographer works for will own the copyright.

If there is an agreement that assigns copyright to another party.
In all other cases, the photographer will retain the copyright, if the photographer has been paid for his work, the payment will be for the photographer’s time and typically an allocated number of prints. The copyright to the photos will remain with the photographer, and therefore any reproduction without permission would be an infringement of copyright.

Examples:

If Bill Smith asks Peter Jones the photographer to photograph his wedding. Peter Jones will normally provide a single copy of the prints as part of the fee, but any additional prints Bill or his family and friend want must be ordered via Peter as he is the copyright owner and controls who can copy his work.
If Bill Smith engages the services of XYZ-Photos for the same job, and Peter is an employee of XYZ-Photo who instruct Peter to take the photos, XYZ-Photos will be the copyright owner and control how they are used.

Interesting, incitful stuff deebee and worrying at the same time. If this is how GB, TB & DW believe this is the way a family club should be run then we have troubling times ahead

I appreciate this is only 1 mans view and we don't have the clubs side of the story........but then it seems rare that we do these days and then it's only ever 1/2 the story

I had worries when I heard how some of the players were kept in the dark at the end of last season by PD about whether they were wanted or not

I'm not claiming Steve was the best in his field at this job but for someone to give as much as he did for as long as he did deserves more recognition than he has received from the club

So SM/VSC any thoughts or comments on what deebee has written?

If it is the same guy, which I think it is, he's bound to be a bit pissed off that his product source has potentially dried up. If I ran a business and my product source had dried up I'd be pissed of too, then again I might be wrong and he might have an alternative source
