Does that mean the game at Wigan will have to be moved back 24 hours?

I'm delighted as I'm still not recovered enough to get to games. So it will be great to see Rovers live.

There's no strange days when Sky is involved, and not many strange times either, remember SOD falling out with them over a time and day of a fixture request, was it against the Dingles on a Sunday about 4 or 5 kick-off?

I think there is a lot more chance of that happening now. Rovers would probably have been in favour anyway but Leeds are more likely to agree now.

This makes me happy as I made the rookie mistake of booking a holiday for the first two week in August! :suicide:

How much money would this televised game mean for the club?

Filo, i just spoke with an associate of John Ryan and asked him the same question.
he said £125k.

Moving the Wigan game back 24 hours won't really help because we are due to play Southend on the following Tuesday, three matches in six days.
Not ideal is it if we are hoping for a solid start in the league campaign.

Maybe the club will put out a half strength team for the cup tie and we will probably get battered in front of the cameras.

Hopefully the club will understand how important the Leeds game is to the fans and not play a weakened team in that game.

If the rumour was true,he would have told you £50,000 No?

I'd like to add,I personally, do not believe the rumour to be true.

To add to that we get 45% of the gate, so lets say we get around 11k and set the admission at £10, that should see around £50k from gate reciepts.

So the game could be worth around £125k to us, which if put to the playing budget is worth a season long loan at £3.5k a week

Don't forget expenses, police, stewards, etc. They'll takes a fair lump from the gate receipts

We're away for this too alongside family friends (danum on here) so am sure we'll find a lovely pub down south to watch it in that hopefully won't be populated by too many leeds fans!

Filo, thanks for that assessment of how the game could end up being worth £125k.
Maybe that is what my pal meant when he was telling me that figure.

Agreed Besty, we should have argued the case for it to be played no later than Wednesday.

Leeds have the same dilemma, but they have put there away game at Reading back 24hrs (now Sunday) and will probably stay down South for the away trip to Bristol City on Tuesday.
That's 3 away games in a row for them, at least we have 2 out of 3 at home .

Really really important to get the admission prices right now. I suspect Weeds will sell around 4000 whatever the price even though it is on telly.
It's going to look embarrassing if the home end is empty and knowing our home support, if it's not £10 to get in I suspect a lot of people will stay at home/go to the pub and watch it.
£10 all round, or £10 and £5??

I'm glad you will get to see the game TRB and hope the outcome will make you feel much better. It's no more than you deserve after your recent setbacks.
I strongly believe the Wigan game should be put back as it will be played less than 48 hours after the Leeds tie. (I seem to remember Louis van Gaal claiming that it was medically proven that players cannot recover in less than 48 hours). At that stage of the season fitness levels will be insufficient to expect the team to perform well enough in the league game. The gap before the Southend game, should the Wigan game be moved, would be slightly longer than that between the Leeds and Wigan games as things stand.
My overall concern is that asking players to perform 3 times in 5/6 days might leave us with injuries which adversely affect our start to the league season

Far too much moving games around and as someone who has already purchased train tickets for the Wigan game I would be royally pissed off . But hey who cares about supporters now a days !!!!

I wouldn't be annoyed, I'd rather watch my team win and if they think they'll benefit by the extra day off so be it. I would imagine the reason you already have your train ticket is that you could buy it extremely cheaply so I doubt it would be too much of a financial loss to you.

The reality is we will just have to get on with it..With media power you cant have your cake and eat it...Based on the above we should come out of it with around 100k which is very handy thank you and a bonus to what has been budgeted...Of course timing is a downside but hopefully by the time this comes along we will have a much stronger squad than last year to cope with it....

It's good that the extra income is confirmed at this time and therefore can be included in to budgets now. Depending on what pot the board choose it to go into, it may mean PD can secure a transfer target which may have previously been considered a 'luxury', it's a win-win in my opinion!
