Whose our best defender then Al?
I did say a week or so back, if things continue as they are we will get relegated. I got shot down for saying such. Reality is now hitting. We should not blame Jones, its not his team nor signings, PD has to be blamed even though he has gone.
What worries me and I hope is a worry to others, is, " Who is going to interview and select our next manager" ? We do not have anyone on the Board including Baldwin who knows anything about football. Yes, they know business, but how will they assess a manager. They can't include the players, they can't include Jones who is supposedly up for the job himself, so who will they get to give them the run down on the interviewees. I think what is also worrying is that some have felt Dickov lost the dressing room ( apart from Wellens I don't think so), the Peterborough players must have as they did what they did at Oldham. If we were in the same position we WOULD have done better at Walsall. This leads me to think the players are quite happy plodding on and picking up their wages.
Yes it's early daysBut a relegation battle loomsIt's back to the old days division 4 then up then downTotal mediocrity Oh wellUp the Rovers
I will bet anyone as much as they like we won't be getting relegated, we've as much chance as Chelsea have of going down
First match I've been able to get to this season. I was pleasantly surprised. We more than matched the second-best side in the division at the moment. We had better chances. Their keeper was deservedly MoM. We conceded from Avery bad individual mistake, then from what looked to me to be a clear foul on a Keegan, having not looked threatened all match. Not taking at least a point from that game was very harsh. I KNOW we've failed to score again, but we made several extremely good chances and were denied by a number of very good saves. Those sort of things happen. But, given the general display (agreed, we didn't "control" the midfield, but neither were we controlled by Walsall) I am guardedly optimistic.

Why wouldn't he
I believe the money and therefore quality was never there. The laziness , topping up of pension funds (Wellens) was our problem NOT PD . I'm sure many will still blame him in 2/3 seasons time. Blame the lack of guts, flair and overall commitment of the players. No Dickov didn't lose the players...he probably never had the one's that reflected the way he persued his career. Gavin Baldwin seriously needs to talk to the owners and see who can be replaced before the trap door opens.Poor preparations for 2 seasons running and the sacking of a manager who had only lost 2 games was frankly ridiculous. You got what you wanted from the start.....careful what you wish for. If Dickov couldn't make these players play in his style and with his grit then without wholesale changes and a fair bit of cash neither will Jones or whoever is selected for the job.

Not that I no like just one a noIf Dickov's style was 'grit' surely he could have achieved that with any players regardless of how much they cost? Is that something money buys?Of course, his (management) style never was actually based on grit was it. He actually wanted to play football on the floor but never quite got the right ingredients to do so. The pensions thing is an over emphasised issue. Jones was always going to stay because he has a coaching role at the club. To the best of my knowledge, it was Dickov himself who chose to re-sign Wellens and Coppinger. The rest of the squad are of perfectly reasonable age.I think we're in bad form but the signs are there we can turn it round. The owners have told us exactly how much money they've put in and that they want promotion this season. I don't know what more can be said - some people seem to see an apocalypse on the horizon despite these fact.
Maybe we have the best on board to make a decision on the new manager. Afterall, they seem less likely to be swayed by emotion. They gave PD a fair crack. I see it more as a business decision, based on who interviews best. I trust them after seeing how they seem to have handled the PD situation.
