Danny Wilson had the job...
« on October 15, 2015, 08:27:47 pm by Dare to dream! »
@AlanBiggs1: Confusion re #drfc : A good source reckons that, as of yesterday, Danny Wilson had got the job. Did that change to Fergie?  Or swung back?

Interesting

What's this about a "good source"?

To be fair on Wilson he would've been a decent choice. I think his association with so many local clubs makes people automatically view him negatively (as I did at first mention) but he's got a pretty good track record over his career. A promotion to the top flight, a stint at that level and some decent records at other clubs where he's been unfortunate not to secure promotion. He has a reputation for good football too, and there's never really been any question mark over his character. He wouldn't have been a bad choice.

All that said, I doubt this source as I can't imagine that Wilson would've turned the job down if offered.

Wouldn't shock me if they go to announce the new manager tomorrow and three people walk in all thinking they have got it.

I heard Ferguson rejected the initial offer due to the wages and plan B was Wilson but then they changed their offer, that's all.

@drfc_official: DB: He ticked a number of boxes and we want to get to the play-offs and ultimately be a sustainable Championship side. #DRFC

The board have no ambition they say.

I think you have probably hit the nail on the head. Someone's wishful thinking may have turned into a non-existent job offer ?

Or wanted longer than a 12 month rolling contract?

Maybe we don't need all this ''alternative''  manager shite any longer. We have a manager now that we need to unite behind. ? Just my opinion.

Or, maybe the journalists and bookies got it wrong and instead of admitting they never had any clue - or just dropping the matter entirely - they're putting out a story when there isn't one.

There's always column inches to fill.

It doesn't matter Darren Ferguson is our manager the agreement was made by all parties so let's hope he can get the team playing well again and getting the performances and results.

it's just hearsay with no foundation to it at all but it doesn't matter now does it.??..Ferguson is now our manager and will be for some time,he plays attacking football..something I am delighted about because I've been bored rigid watching Donny for too long....For the first time in a while, I'm really really looking forward to tomorrow, not because I expect anything much better than weve seen so far because it probably wont be...But at last we have a plan and can move forward over the next few months and even if we cant get up to the play offs,We can put the foundations in place for next season...Exciting times for me...

A one year rolling contract never ends until he's sacked then he gets a years money as a pay off.

Correct, and they are quite the norm in football these days.

Pleased its Ferguson and not Wilson I think Wilson would have been a poor appointment, he's barely done anything for 10years.

I get that, but for a manager it doesn't give him the stability of say a 3 year contract does it? On the flipside I guess its easier for a manager to move elsewhere if he wishes.

I heard Ferguson turned the job down as he wanted a 2yr contract, and he was only offered a 1yr rolling contract. Then at the 11th hour, as the board were preparing to offer it to Wilson,  his agent phoned the club to say he'd take the job.

With the budget managers get at Sheff Utd anything less than promotion is poor.
