Chanting
« on November 07, 2015, 05:47:49 pm by Nathan West »
Today the black bank was chanting O'driscoll/Penney/John Ryan says...  I couldn't hear the rest of the chants as it was loud too make out. Anyone knows what it was? It sounded great. They went through the whole team too. New chant?

Great atmosphere today! Well done all! :scarf:

I don't really understand it myself. Wouldn't it be better to spend time chanting support for the team rather than a petty squabble with a supporters group, that half the fans chanting probably aren't even aware of anyway.

This post? It's not. Genuinely thought it sounded great just was too loud to make out.

Loved the Coppinger tributes today too. Never known it so loud for a FA cup 1st round game!

To be honest I thought that the T osphere in the south stand went downhill after that ten minute (not so loud) stupid chant.
It was though some people were reluctant to join in with them after that.
A shame really be wise it has been very good of late.

Well I'm glad you saw it that way because I'm one of the people who wasn't really keen on joining in afterwards. Made me think "what's the point?" and question why I've just donated to the crowdfunder. It's a real shame because it could be such a positive thing for the club.

I thought the atmosphere was great the whole game considering it was FA Cup 1st Round V Non-League. Great effort. It's growing.

I'm not sure what this is all about but I'm guessing it was some stupid anti VSC chant . I am a strong member of the Black Bank and what they are trying to achieve but if it's more of the 'pro Ryan , f**k the VSC ' type of thing then lads you have lost my support.

The VSC along with John Ryan helped to save this club from extinction so......drop it quickly !!

I'm a bit uneducated with rovers history. I understand Ryan saving the club, but did the vsc? please elaborate?

The VSC was putting money in at the start when it was needed.
Ignoring the part that Andy Liney played in the club's transformation also does him a great disservice.

Didn't get today but personally songs like this should be chanted because of it wasn't for those guys we wouldn't be where we are now and achieve what we did in such short space, the guys are legends forever at rovers.

Idler thanks for your reply, I have to digress, I didn't realise the financial input of the vsc at the time or even of nowadays. I can only go from certain rumours that (i hope to be quashed) very little input was gained to the club via the vsc. Also, the black bank in particular was a brain child of the vsc??

It's pathetic, killed the atmosphere somewhat again today. It's not a school playground.

The VSC bought shares in the club in the early days. The money put in wasn't vast amounts but at that time we were a conference side and every little helped. Andy Liney was also the VSC representative on the board. He attended all planning meetings possible and raised a lot of money for the club as well as canvassing for the new ground. His input shouldn't be under estimated.

Andy's involvement in getting the Keepmoat built should not be underestimated either, without that we may not be where we are now.

Ahhh Rumours, cracking album but probably not the best way to learn about the recent history of Doncaster Rovers.

Can I suggest as a starting point the Ashes to Glory DVD. This was put together by our former chairman and undoubted saviour, John Ryan, and is a personal history of our time from when before John took over until the Championship play-off. The useful part is the first part where John talks about the state the club was in before he became involved and the moves the fans around at that time took to save it. The coffin march is particuarly interesting and I know for a fact some of the leaders of that went on to found the VSC.

Then I suggest you purchase a copy of the Commemorative Programme for the opening fixture at the Keepmoat. There is a big piece in there by the Chairman of the VSC at the time, Andy Liney, who was heavily involved in the construction of the Keepmoat. John Ryan had fallen out with the council - and resigned as chairman - and it was Andy, therefore the VSC, who led the negotiations with the Council on behalf of Roversl to have the Keepmoat built. The figure at the time was given at £32m so essentially the VSC gained Rovers a £32m asset.

There is obviously a lot more to it than that Tony Bluff's book, John Ryan's book, Ian McMahons book will all give you more background onto out long term and recent history.

There you go. All facts and no rumours. I am surprised you don't know it though, I would have thought a little knowledge of what your club has gone through would be essential to a supporter of any club, not just ours. Obviously not.

Oh you are too cynical DVR, if a poster on here, who claims to be a Rovers supporter, says he/she doesnt know about the recent history of the club then you have to take him/her at face value....
