Try answering this one!
« on April 07, 2016, 01:44:38 pm by Chris Black come back »
Player of the season?

I have thought and thought about this and there is nobody worth awarding this to I am afraid.

It would make quite a statement if we left this vacant this year.

I'd be all for leaving it vacant. I can't think of anyone who deserves it.

Give it to one of the youth team who hasn't played. Wouldn't award it to a single one of the first team squad.

Potentially could have the greatest impact on the Rovers season.

Seriously though why not give it as a group to Black Bank.  everytime I've been this year they have produced a wall of noise and been more effective then the 11 useless tossers on the pitch.

If we judge by the first half of the season before our form slump, you could argue a case for Williams and possibly Evina.

lol You could also argue a dam convincing case against those two as well....I really couldn't vote for anybody, awards should be deserved on merit and not because your trying to make a case for a very bad bunch...

14 goals in half a season for a striker isn't a bad return is it?

I can't imagine there will be much of an end of season party anyway, seeing as it is almost certain we'll go down.

Aye. If only he'd played a full season.

it isn't you are right on that...,Maybe they should change the award to player of half a season then....Mr Murrant our marketing man (I simply refuse to use the word manager on principle) will have all his work cut out selling tables for that party...

Would make quite a media story this I think.

Not sure which ones we have control over but think both VSC and Supporter's Club award one?

Leaving it vacant would be more constructive and far more impactful than any mindless booing would achieve.

Stuckmann was brilliant for the first half of the season. Gets my vote.

Keshi Anderson...........a fantastic player, but now with a broken leg, let down by pathetic refereeing,

Sounds familiar to someone who was close to our hearts?

Any team without a keeper would be rock bottom, it's quite a crucial position! Even Rovers might have scored more against a keeperless side..........If we could get a shot on target!

My first thought to answer this was Keshi Anderson. I know he only made 7 appearances but he was our most consistent performer, and scored three goals which sadly is more than most.

If I were giving the award for up until this awful run started, I'd give it to Evina as he did pretty well up to February. Williams scored a lot of goals but had that really tough run without one early on in the campaign.

Evina, Stuckmann, Coppinger and Williams (in no particular order) currently occupy the top 4 Viking Chat Player of the year places, with 10 points the difference between 1st and 4th. No matter how bad the team have played over the season, there will always be a stand out player, and I think that player should still get a mention from the fans, even in the face of relegation :scarf:

Interestingly Anderson has the most Viking Chat man of the matches (4).

there's still 6 games left and potentially 24 points to play for, so people should definitely carry on voting for their man of the match after each game. Another 3 or 4 players could sneak to the top, so really does come down to the last couple of games.

do you mean the supporters club' player of the year? Coppinger won the Viking Chat Player of the Year last year: http://www.drfc-vsc.co.uk/index.php?page=179

Thought we were on about the official club one.

In the time since Copps arrived the following players have won the official player of the year:
McIndoe (twice), Adam Lockwood / Graeme Lee, Wellens, Matt Mills, James O'Connor, Billy Sharp, George Friend, Rob Jones, Chris Brown & Tyson. Each player probably deserved it in each season too I reckon.

On a side note, was just checking the 08/09 stats (when Matt Mills won it) and our lowest attendance that season was 9,534 (v Swansea) and our average attendance was 11,964

Conor Grant would also be a contender had he not been injured.

Is it four points for a win now, Rob?  ;)
