Our Anniversary Season.
« on August 12, 2016, 10:47:12 am by Colin C No.3 »
Me & my brother went to our first Rovers game in 1967 & became season ticket holders the following season, so this season marks 50 years for us as supporters.

We've stood together (& more latterly sat together, along with his smashing 10 & 8 year old daughters who are now themselves season ticket holders) through all the up's & the down's, in all weathers, from Rushden & Diamonds at Nene Park, to Newcastle United at St. James Park.

So tomorrow we have our first league home game of the new season. I hope, no, I feel this 'anniversary season' will be another memorable one for us culminating in promotion to EFL1 & ultimately back to the Championship, but one thing for certain if the fates allow, we'll both still be there.

I started going in 1997 and my grandad who is sadly not with us any more started going in 1947. Must be something about years ending in a "7"!

1984 for me (although I have been told many times that my Uncle took me a couple of seasons prior to this but I have no memory of it at all sadly). My Son is not quite old enough yet and I want to wait until he really wants it so he gets that 'hook' first time through the gate.

The programme for this season will be commemorating a particularly special anniversary. Can you guess what that might be?

We played two home games against Forest in 1952.

9/2/1952. Lost 0-1.
20/9/1952. Won 1-0 (Arthur Adey).

I remember you mooting it TRB - congrats if you have managed to have it included. Will there be a piece in each programme, and did we ever get confirmation of those dodgy goalscorers?

67-68 me too. Port Vale in April. Agree with all the sentiments. Interestingly if I had been born a couple of months earlier I could have bought my ST at a reduced rate. Doesn't take a genious to work that one out as to why. Actually in the 70's I got my ST as child as they didn't have a student rate in those days so I suppose I ended up evens!

Can anyone help me pin down my first Rovers game? It was a friendly against LUFC. I think i was around 6/7 years old? So that would be in the late 60,s  If anyone a record of us playing at home in that era i would be grateful.

I recall us playing Leeds in a friendly before the start of the 1970-71 season. Will look out some details.

My first game was a home 0-0 draw against Chesterfield in 1962 when i was ten years old.
The first goal i saw scored by a Rovers player was by Colin Booth a couple of games later.

Out of interest, Wiki tells me that Boothy is still with us and is 81 now.
Now he was a good striker.

My first game was at home to Reading in 4th Div in Sept/Oct 1975
I am from Leeds originally and used to watch them ( sorry folks )
From 1975 to 1979 watched both teams but Billy Bremner ( my boy hood hero ) turned me into a fully fledged Rovers fan.
No body can ever call me a glory hunter as Leeds were top league and Rovers bottom league.

My first was also in 1962 hound - an FA Cup tie we lost 1-4 to Tranmere and Brian Conwell was carried off with a broken leg. And of course, like you, Colin Booth scored the Rovers goal, the first I ever saw

My son was pat testing in Derby and mentioned to the woman there that he was a Donny fan. It turned out that she was Brian Conwell's daughter.

My first game was in the 1988-89 season, Dave Mackay was in charge, i don't remember if Joe Kinnear took over in that game, or after. It was against exeter, we won 2-1, Paul Dobson with two penalties, i think paul malcolm broke his leg in the game, i'm not sure?.

Malcolm broke his leg in a 3-2 home defeat to Grimsby I think?

The Exeter game was early in the season - first home League game I think. Grimsby was on May Day Monday. Malcolm and Richard O'Kelly both suffered broken legs in that game. Malcolm's ended his career. We lost 2-3.

Tony Conwell ex Derby full back, broke his leg at BV in a cuptie against Tranmere about 1962.
