The B team trophy
« on August 28, 2016, 05:58:24 pm by DearneValleyRover »
The farce goes on:
On the one hand the Football League are stating that it is a serious competition and teams will be fined if they fail to field a minimum of 6 players who played at the weekend.
On the other they are stating that suspension gained at the weekend will not be considered for these games as it isn't a first team tournament.

And the original:

I wonder if this means that any bookings picked up will be counted towards the non-first team tally? This really needs clarification.

The Football leagues. They didn't even have interest from the PL clubs till after.

if the fine is only say £2000 it would be worth taking to avoid injuries to the first team squad

And then many of the PL teams didnt want to join.

Its a 1 season experiment. I think there is next to no chance of it happening like this next season.  The criticism from fans has been loud and clear.

I agree it will be short lived, Rob, but sadly not because of the negative reaction from fans. It will be put to sleep because the big clubs (bar Chelsea, whose fixtures have had to be rearranged to suit them) have not bought into the idea.

If it has done one service it has shown up the inherent problems with the idea that Greg Dyke floated about B Teams in the Football League. And it will have emboldened those clubs who don't care much for the EFL's "Whole Game Solution."

I'll give it a fair crack of the whip and decide at the end of the season whether it was a good thing or not.

That said, the organisation has become that slopdosh and 'make it up as we go along' the chances are that the damage has already been done, which will prevent this from being a long-term thing.

The word is 'slapdash', not 'slopdosh'.

Also, an error on DROS (!):
Quote
Rovers make their first of at least two trips to Nottinghamshire on Tuesday.....
At least two? This should read 'three':
Mansfield (A) nobody cares trophy
Mansfield (A) League Two
Notts County (A) League Two

We used to call a mixture of soil and water slopdosh in Balby in the 1950s.

So if we have anyone booked tomorrow it won't count towards other competitions.

Well that lot to me makes an even bigger joke "efl clubs must field a minimum of 5 first team players"  "invited clubs must field at least 6 under 21players"
So we have to field 5 first team players and the "invited clubs" can field 11 under 21s plus any bookings/sending offs are exclusive to this competition.
And updated with this lot today!

What a total utter farce to say the very least

If we have to play 5 first team players, cant we use subs after a couple of minutes and bring 3 of them off the pitch?

won't this rule just encourage harder tackling and invite more injuries? obviously thought up by the PL teams. I imagine the conversation went like this:

Rep for PL teams: We won't play in your silly little competition unless any cards given to our players won't count in other competitions
FL: Fine by us. Is that ok with you man from the FA?
Man from the FA: Whatever the PL want. Mine's a Dom Perignon, when you're ready.

Unbelievably no. You can't pay on the night at Mansfield and tickets go off sale at 3pm at The Keepmoat.

I'm not sure if "no sales on the night" applies in home areas, but of course you would have to keep your head down!

Hardly a policy likely to encourage people to come to the game, although I think Mansfield's hands are probably tied by the local plods.

Gary Megson did that a few years ago when playing against Bradford City at Valley Parade.
He was laughing as the subs were made and it didn't go down well with some City fans as they thought it disrespectful to their club.

No.

But then I would advise you to boycott it anyway to show the EFL that their meddling with the integrity of the competition is not welcome.
