(R)overlooked players
« on September 03, 2016, 12:51:20 pm by Bentley Bullet »
Thinking about past (and present) Rovers players who didn't seem to get a fair chance when with us for one reason or another, three players come to mind for starters.

Stuart Nelson
Mark Duffy
John Spicer

Do you agree? Who would you include on the list?

A mate of John Spicers used to go to the same gym in Bradford and says that his career would have been far better if he'd had a different attitude.
He said he couldn't cook, iron or anything and was always going back home to his mum's between games and training. He also said that he was unbelievable at schoolboy level but never kicked on to realise his full potential. He said that he was a great lad though and good company.

I think Spicer got a fair crack of the whip, though. When he came into that team in our first season in the championship it really kicked us up a gear, but after that season he just seemed to drift and he's done next to nothing since leaving us.

Stuart Nelson and Adam Collin have both had decent careers despite barely featuring for us, but Greer Is arguably the stand out in terms of stepping up to another level. I think he would have featured a lot more for us if he'd been fit, though.

Ryan Mason
Jordan Mutch

Disagree with Mason - when fit he played, in fact SOD brought him in to build a team around.

John McGrath is a good shout. Signed by Dave P to play on the left wing a week or two before JR went out and bought McIndoe. Very unfortunate for McGrath that was

Players are also people with personalities as are Managers . I totally understand that there can be an impossible relationship between certain folk ..Forrester and Fergie ... N'Guessan and Fergie ... in our recent exeriences but over the years there have been many . The Wignall / Duerden one got my goat and was one rare occaision  when my sympathy was  with the player not the manager.

Ferguson clearly took one look at Forrester and thought that he was exactly the wrong type of player for him.

I think the Rovers fans put an end to Mains' time with us.

Byron Webster. I know he was injured but was barely used by Sean O'Driscoll in his two years here, (3 starts). Seems to have been steady away for Yeovil and Millwall since.

If you saw the way that Darius Henderson mutilated him in one of those starts, I reckon you'd accept that he was left out on humanitarian grounds.

I remember that very well.. I was about 6 rows back and this was just in front of me.  Deserved a red card but of course the officials did nowt..

Duane Darby. Hardly made an impact in midfield in the season he was with us. Went to Hull and had a 1 in 3 scoring record when played up front by them.

I really liked Duffy but I think he got a fair crack for that one season without ever doing anything special. Nelson, well he was just unfortunate to be stuck behind Andy Warrington and of course, you can only have one goalkeeper playing.

Yes, I'm aware how obvious a statement that is!  :P

I think Webster is a decent shout, good find by SOD he was from where was it, FK Siad Most in the Czech Republic?

Then he chucked the teddy out when he got dropped after doing nigh on f**k all for ages and then decided he was too good for League One. Which is where he ended up going back to, twice. f**king bellend.

In the Championship now though.
Ripped us apart in the 3-3 last season.
