3 more wins
« on March 11, 2017, 07:52:00 pm by Copps is Magic »
I reckon 3 more wins gives us promotion.

Not mathematically but practically.

81 points would be 2 more points than the 4th placed team's current form till the end of the season. 81 points would also be good enough in 72% of cases in the last 21 years to get promotion.

Cant be ... if he was telescopic he would not need to stand all the time ... could just rise and fall as and when

However telepathic yes . I reckon we are home and hosed with 3 wins but I really think we will get more than 3 comfortably. We did the old football cliche thing today. Did not play really well / convincingly but still won - The mark of Champions as the pundits often say !

I will eat my bobble hat (as I don't like wearing it unless it is freezing) if we don't win at least 5 of the last 10 matches.
I know we are not promoted yet but can ANYONE realistically see us blowing auto promotion now.
Has anyone ever blown it from a 14 point lead over 4th place with 10 games to play?
This group of players want to be CHAMPIONS and this group of players will be CHAMPIONS.

As per Mason's pre-match interview for the game just gone, the player's mindset is definitely now on winning the title. With Plymouth only 4 points behind and still to play us, that won't be settled for some time.

Even Fergie has started talking about the title.

My estimates are always on the conservative side, but I reckon 4 wins will be enough for automatic.

However I would be disappointed now if we didn't go on and win the Title.

The two games before Plymouth are big opportunities really two winnable games which for me we must win.

It would be very nice to keep at least a 4 point gap over Plymouth so that when we play them no matter what the result we stay above them

I agree, if, ( & it will be tough especially Tuesday against a resurgent Notts County) we can win the next 2 games, with Plymouth having 2 awkward looking games against Wycombe & Morecambe, they could be heading for the Keepmoat under real pressure to win the game.

I studied the League Table after Tuesday night's games. We sat 11 points above 4th place.

After our relatively poor February, I was concerned about how much ground we'd lost.

I looked back at previous League Tables to see that after our brilliant January, we'd opened up a 14 point gap on 4th place.

So, not too much damage done, I thought.

One game later, we've restored our 14 point cushion over 4th place.

Not quite time to kick off the slippers, sit back on the rocking chair and light a Hamlet.

But not far off.....

Lutons game in hand potentially reduces that gap to 12 points, but still a healthy lead

It's a matter of which game we seal promotion.

Hoping Grimsby away but I think it may be Mansfield at home.

I think,Luton's game in hand is against Newport, so a good chance of them getting 3 points

Yep, I clocked that Filo. But they lost at home today, so all our rivals are showing how capable they are of dropping points.

And what of Carlisle?! 0-3 at home today!
They just can't keep up with us.......

Off the top of my head, for the title we had 92 points in 2003-04 and the equivalent of 83 and only 80 in 65-66 and 68-69. We had 85 points coming second in 83-84 and the equivalent of 78 points coming 3rd in 80-81. We were very fortunate in that  these were all very low figures except 83-84 and 03-04.

When I say equivalent, that was for seasons when only 2 points were given for a win.

Four straight defeats for Carlisle.

I was a little worried about them when we lost at their place, but they have imploded since.

The image of frosty running onto the pitch and stumbling on a divet has me quite entertained.

Interestingly, just had a look at the latest odds. Many mainstream bookies have stopped offering odds on us being promoted. The ones that remain give odds of 1/100. We're generally 1/5 for the title.

the at a glance table not showing home and away is highly misleading

rovers have played 36 18 home 18 away
plymouth 36 19 home 17 away
PORTSMOUTH 36 17 HOME 19 AWAY

and effectively Portsmouth made a quantum increase in their goal difference yesterday now it's only 2 behind Rovers

before yesterdays games it was 17-18 rovers
19-16 plymouth
17-18 portsmouth

so we can all see where the danger if there is one is clue the team starts with a "P" !

I'm assuming that quantum means huge, but it's not as if they won 6 nil or owt is it..  they only caught up 2 goals...
