If he is our next signing I bet the person who won the prize of announcing our next signing is dreading it

I know whenever I comment I seem to be negative but I'll be surprised if we get him or the World Cup under 19 winner.  I feel that Ben Khemis should have been signed unless it's him not wanting to.  I thought he was a free agent so unless there's some unknown obstacle it's a no brainer   Probably sign for someone else after being with us all summer
Can see us ending up with McSheffrey and a late loan Conor Grant
I'm hoping not if they're just because we need players.  I'm going DF can get these players in but so far he's not achieved anywhere near his pre season wants

So far he seems to have played on the left hand side and you could argue his link up play is better the Rowe but, we know Rowe comes alive in and around the box.

Should he sign it's going to give DF some good selection options.

Re:Post above, I don't think it will go down well if he slips the net after all this time, particularly given the overwhelming thumbs up in this thread!

Young and talented foreign player untested in lower league English football?

Step forward Abdul Razak.

In fairness he was on City's books at one point and had a few loan spells in the Football League (granted, few appearances), so it's not as if he was entirely alien to English football.

Id sign him,, but even after that were still light

Butler and alcock,, cover or not they're not the answers in the long term. Butler is not and never should be a centre back unless its dire circumstances!!!!

Out of curiosity, what position do you think Butler should play?

I think the point he is trying to make is that Butler should be nowhere near the starting 11.
I agree with that.

He was pictured with the rest of the squad down at Donny market today. Idd imagin taking part in events like that gives an indication he will be signing. Hopefully hear something over the weekend or early next week..... with him being Tunisian will he need a work permit, or has he spent enough years in France ??

Butler is fine as long as he has someone alongside him with a bit of pace. He wins virtually everything in the air and is a good leader from the back.

Did any of you Butler Bashers actually watch him play against the Wendies. He had a really good game, I was in the West stand, and watched him chase down a ball giving the Wendies attacker 2/3 yards and actually beating him to the ball, nullifying the attack.
Ok, so there may be taller, quicker defenders out there, but in my opinion we'd be a sorry bunch without him. He's here, he's ours, so why not just get off his back and let the bloke do his job.
If he's good enough for Fergie, I'll bow to his better judgement, and support Butler the best I can.

Well said, Rover-n-out.  Butler has been a real leader for us.  Give the bloke a bit of respect.  He's plenty good enough for L1

Totally agree. Fletcher didn't get any change out of him. He's a dominant centre half who will win 90% of the headers in open play.

Wright might become a strong centre half in the future but he doesn't win headers cleanly like Butler does!

Can't understand this anti Butler feeling - he's been great for us after he got over his demons. He will never worry ussain bolt but a great winner of headers when played forward

I'm a fan of Butler. I think he is a good leader and well organised. He is more than good enough at league one level

If this thread is about French Ben, then get him signed up asap, I've not seen a better all round player for a long time. As for the Butler part of this thread, no one at this club comes close to being a better header of the ball, putting his body on the line so to speak. V the Wendies he was outstanding, only problem with him at the back is we need the other CBs to have some speed as Butlers isn't the best. Although I have to say, from the games I've seen, he seems in better shape and moving faster than I've every seen him in a Rovers shirt, hope it continues.

No I'd call the dog a dog and I'd call Issam French Tunisian, the same way Zidane is French Algerian.
