Marquis discipline

Praise for John because I was desperately worried prior to Rovvrum away he would pick up another booking meaning he would be suspended for the 2 matches - how wrong was I? JM was outstanding and put in a performance to be proud of he scored a great goal from 18 yards slamming it in with his other foot & never gave the officials one iota of trouble with a game of self discipline I didn’t think him capable of.

He has his critics and I’ve found myself defending his all round performances and work rate for the cause has been exemplary in my opinion. I’m also of the belief that he has now regained his form and the goals will flow again shortly.

I think I saw 'second Sunday im March', which is the same if all games are actually played. I think if a match is postponed before then, the date still counts, not the number of matches. For example they will have had no idea how many cup matches any team might have played.

It's 37 league games this season.

Can we get clarification of whether the cut off is 37 league games or second Sunday in March? It is true that with no postponements then the second Sunday in March would have seen the completion of 37 league games for all clubs in League 1.

Do you have a source Curley? On the FA site the player essentials pdf file mentions second Sunday in March, but I don't see 37 league games mentioned anywhere. If the idea was to be consistent over the number of games played by each club I can't see this working since clubs play different numbers of cup matches which count towards suspensions.

I am sure this used to be a date thing, not a matches played?  It's interesting to know, as with tomorrow's postponement a date limit is better!

Exactly IDM. It was certainly a date in previous seasons, but I may have missed any change..

Rochdale would still have way to go.

I must be missing something. All I can find in the linked player essentials pdf is the reference to the second Sunday in March on Page 4 regarding on field matters. I can't find a reference to 37 league games anywhere. Sorry if I am being blind and/or stupid - can anyone cut and paste the reference to 37 games on here?

So what is it then. Second Sunday in March or 37 games?

I take it as whatever comes first - Is this correct?

37 games for the individual player, or for the team?

The FA site today has Marquis as still one yellow away from a ban with next fixture the Bradford one (37th), so is up to date.

I guess that confirms that the date cut-off thing is no longer valid this season, and is replaced by 37 games in the EFL.

We wouldn't be Donny Rovers without having that twist of losing our main striker for two games for 10 yellows on the last game that counts  :suicide:

Not on John Marquis case, but a does a club suspend a player's wages if he's suspended and not able to play ?

Not as a rule, but a player can be fined if he gets sent off or booked for an act of stupidity.

Personally I would fine any player booked for dissent a standard amount. I dare say that is the case at a lot of clubs.

all John has to do is keep his head down and not get wound up. But maybe we could stick a zip to his lips just for this game too

If I remember rightly, Billy Bremner did not tolerate players getting booked for dissent.

Am I right in thinking that JM got booked against Blackpool which was the game after the yellow card amnesty?? That after treading a tightrope for quite a few games. That’s shows there’s no disciple problem and he knows exactly what he is doing most of the time, whether that’s leaving a foot in, breaking up play or niggling centre halves. Clever footballer.

You are correct, it was one game after the amnesty.
