Paul Taylor
« on July 23, 2018, 03:36:02 pm by scawsby steve »
Liam Hoden is now reporting that Paul Taylor has trained for the last 2 days(he must mean Thursday and Friday), and that GM has said that he looks very good, and will play some minutes at Deeping. This has surprised me somewhat, with it being a groin injury, but if it's right, bring it on; if we can get this guy back to his best, he'll be the signing of the summer.

Do we need any more attacking midfield players? I think I would use the funds elsewhere

Undoubtedly a talent who does in theory add to our attacking options. If we can keep him off Silver Street, that is. If he's showing commitment to improve and earn his way under GM then I'll get behind us signing him.

I've seen Bradford fans say he could get in most teams in this league.

Really not sure about "Tayls" (as McCann calls him !) I just hope Grant isn't just doing an old mate a favour. He has to let his head rule his heart & IF he genuinely thinks he's worth having in the squad, then fair enough.

Says it is a 20 year old midfielder who has been released by his club. Any news in the Rumour Mill please.

I have nothing against the man at all, if he comes here and turns out a player , then well done.
What I do not like is us getting rid of a talented young player to Morcombe allegedly  for a bad attitude and provide rehab for another. it does not make sense to me, and looks like double standards.

Because Paul Taylor is a really talented player proven at this level. Mandveville isn’t and couldn’t get in Colchester’s team last season.

Mandeville has nothing but cotton wool between his ears if he listened and applied himself he wouldn’t have gone anywhere

Taylor when at his best cost Ipswich £1.25 million. their return was 1 goal in 16 games for them before loaning him out to two different clubs where he did not score.
In three seasons 1 goal when at his best, just think about that, when at his best, might get through your cotton wool.
He didn't even look like a player at Frickley, if that is his starting point he has a long way to go.
I have forgotten about Mandeville playing for us again, but I have more ambition than signing players that have had their contract terminated by a club no better than us.
And it hardly follows the standards this club supposedly aspires to.

He is only 30 if he can score 10 this season and get say 15 assists then great also if he wants to be here and fits in with GM and his system then I don't care if he's free better than paying 100k and getting no better or possibly worse.

For free he is worth the gamble for me

I’m not saying Taylor is the answer just giving the reason Mandeville has been allowed to leave

In the last 9 years he has played for 9 clubs and played a total of 167 games scoring a total of 22 goals.
If he scored 10 this season it would be a miracle to me, and when I assume he was fitter and younger over them 9 seasons he has averaged just over 18 games a season.
I hope he does dknward,  but will have a bet with you he doesn't

Ten goals for a midfielder in any division would be an excellent return.
(Never mind fifteen assists which would be more than incredible).
Let's just hope that he applies himself and adds some quality to the team.

If he scored a hattrick every game and 5 assists per game then I'll be mildly satisfied.

Are we scraping the proverbial barrel already?

We are hanging onto a stated aim of top 6 yet our performance, so far, in the market is nothing short of woeful.

We are looking for an attacking forward if the answer is Taylor and no other forward comes in then the answers GB and GM gave at the supporters meeting about finances are meaningless.
If GM wants to bring him I as well has another attacking play er that’s his choice his risk. But not the only attacking player.

Not really sure how that renders their answers on finances meaningless. If that's what McCann has chosen to spend his money on, how do you take that to mean that there is no more money?

Never said no more money. Or even implied that. They said money was available for the right player or players which is meaningless if GM only chooses to spend it on the wages of Taylor. We need better and I understand him trying to hold out but don’t want to take the easy option. If Taylor was the player to take this league apart then why leave Bradford why aren’t there a queue of other clubs trying to sign him.
