Owner Steve Dale tells BBC Radio Manchester he has agreed a deal to sell Bury as a deadline for their possible expulsion from the EFL approaches.

The club, which has had its first six games of the season suspended, has been given until 23:59 BST to prove it can pay off creditors and has funding in place to complete the season.

An update issued at 17:00 BST by the English Football League said "limited progress" had been made in either providing the evidence or finding a buyer for the League One club.

More to follow.

One story is that the buyer is Alastair Campbell’s son.

But this is going to the wire.

Deal done with a London-based consortium, just waiting on EFL approval now.

Statement from Newman and Campbell of C&N Sporting Risk

"We can confirm that over the past 10 weeks we have been in discussions with Bury FC, the EFL and others with a view to putting forward a proposal to buy the club.

"It is a very complicated scenario and there remain a number of outstanding legal and other issues that have to be addressed.

"Our background is in football and data analytics and it should therefore not be surprising that we are taking a very detailed forensic look at the realities of Bury FC finances.

"A club like Bury ought to have a viable long-term future even if the short-term future is clearly very challenging. To that end we have been in discussions with the EFL about an extension so that we can continue to explore the prospects for a purchase. We will be making no further comment at this stage."

There will be an extension to the midnight deadline in order to give Mr. Campbell time to get a deal over the line.

I think.....

Sounded like if there was an offer accepted they'd extend it a couple more days.

Looks like game on next week
….. if they have any players. Maybe they will do the infamous bus journey like Rovers and pick the team up on the way to the ground.

They'll be in need of people who have been in similar situations of building a cheap team, quickly. Step forward Mark Weaver!!

So we maybe their first home game
( if they get agreement..if.the EFL don’t change their mind  .if they don’t put other fixtures before ours  if..if) so no change then .

Knowing our look next week's game will be cancelled , as it's come to soon for them to field a team .

Then we'll end up playing them after they've been hammered a good few times , but have settled down and become more competitive.

A bit like the Bolton situation.  :)

Interviewing a Bury fan on Beeb and it seems Citeh have now offered to loan them a load of players. Yes I know the rules around the number of loans in the playing 11 but Bury could still end up with a half decent team, on the other hand if they are like Rodney they might struggle a bit

I’m glad it sorted itself out.  BBC news this morning mentioned that clubs around Manchester have been offering to loan them players.  That’s ok but they will still only be able to have 5 in any squad
What would be nice for me would be for a club like M Utd M city Liverpool or Everton to loan them one of their up and coming young British coaches to develop the same as they would with players  someone like a Jody Morris when he was in charge at Chelsea academy
Good luck to them and let’s hope that if they get loan players they’re not all from the M City second team otherwise we might all be knackered

So a load of youngsters with a load of re-arranged games to add to a big fixture list. How will they play more than once a week? Thank god they can’t just cancel games and get away with it... oh wait?!

I actually think it would be great if Rovers fans sung burys name for a couple of minutes (just the once) in a show of solidarity.
We've been there after all.

The irony of what they are allowing to happen with Bolton.
