Its been 2 1/2 months since McCann left, its time we stopped using that as an excuse.

Football business just happens very quickly. Either you swim or you don't survive.

Nick it's a great point and one for meet the owners.

Cim, I see what you are saying, but with the model we have in giving managers the choice it does leave this risk.  You could argue the best success we had was built under managers given that chance to do it there way. Perhaps we have to accept we wont be quite there this year or maybe it's just the way the club will operate. Either way, we can do nothing about it at all but support them on Saturday.

The club could have helped themselves this summer.
Baldwin said they were hoping Moore would apply, why not approach him and appoint him.
That would’ve saved almost a month.
The players that were lined up which Baldwin said he’d be surprised if the new manager didn’t want them, go sign them.
If they were as exciting as you say go get them, the new manager can work with them.

Can we perhaps remind ourselves that it was the stated intention of McCann (admittedly no longer our manager) to reduce the overall size of the squad. He wanted it smaller, not larger. Not saying this is a driving force behind our current recruitment strategy but 24 man squads are not always what a manager might want.

He also stated he wanted it to be made up of more permanently contracted players and fewer loans. So we certainly haven’t followed his blueprint to the letter.

The transfer window has shut. If we do secure another player it will be a free agent on a short term deal. We currently have seven players contracted to the club beyond the current season. That is pretty shocking.

At this point last season, how many players did we have contracted to the club beyond June 2019?

That statement can’t surely be used to oppose Jonathan?
Look at the mess we’ve been left in this summer, what happened last season we should be learning from not trying to replicate

Got to agree with this. No one better than Moore was likely to apply whats the harm in asking and saving 2-3 weeks. if he says no we'd only be waiting for CV's to come in anyway

The problem originates from long before McCann left. This problem has been brewing for ages. Getting to January and still having 15+ players out of contract (will have to check that figure) was the start of the problem, and the club has had ages to put plans in place to sort it.

You would think DM would want to see the players in more than 4 league fixtures before discussing contract extensions.?

Mr Frosts Dad, my info is that Clark is on way over £10k a week, very nearly treble, which is pissing Sheffield United off, and the reason he is not that bothered about coming here or anywhere else until the end of his contract, or he gets nearly the same, or Sheffield United pay his contract up.
  Eye watering isn't it.

Can't blame Clarke though. Utd's fault for offering those kind of terms. They probably didn't seriously think they'd get promoted

I very much expect his reason for staying put is down to money and a decent contract, but there is absolutely no way he will be on £30k a week. No chance.

Plenty of people asking questions of DM. But, is it Darren or is it Gavin? Or someone else?

Whoever it is, this has been appalling by ‘the Club’. It’s indefensible in my eyes - the manager made it perfectly clear what he wanted and, supposedly, we were down to 1 man and yet, we still failed miserably to get his main target in.

Be patient everyone said - we’ll, a lot of good that did!

This is going to take some explaining and there seems to be quite a lot of unpleasantness on social media. The Board have done themselves no favours at all with all this.

It is a genuine question, to which I don’t know the answer. We have been on the two year contract model for a while now, so the issue with contracted players for the following season might not be down to how this manager has shuffled his deck.

The club want to adapt a short term strategy. Its as clear as day.

Why sign your own players, on lengthy contracts costing substantial money when you can fill a squad of loans and short term contracts?

McCann stated before he left that we were going to cap wages. Hence the lack of players willing to sign or renew their contracts.

Makes you wonder why Ben stayed doesn't it😉😉

You want the CEO to sign a load of players regardless of what the manager wants, needs or thinks?!

f**k it. Is Uncle Ken still alive? Someone give him a call and tell him his time has come again.

Can see him being on between 10k to 20k depending on what he was on last season most players get themselves a big promotion wage increase of up to 50 percent.

If he was on say 8k a week in the championship he may have a 20 percent increase a season so up to 9.6k a week then say a 50 percent for going up another 4.5k so total around 14k a week can see why he may rather sit on his arse and do the minimum in his contract rather then risk coming to us and getting a career ending injury or not doing good enough and ending his career at a league 1 side when so close to playing in the premiership

If we’ve exciting players waiting to sign I would suggest that’s a far better option than what we’re in now.

If we had an identity like we had a couple of years ago of signing young hungry players we can develop. It wouldn’t matter who was manager.

But this identity seems to have fallen off a cliff

That identity was the one positive from our relegation to league 2. We came back with that and had some stability with playing squad which last year only needed a couple of quality loan player to be playoff contenders. This year we've needed 6 loan signings to make a 18 man squad

When was this golden era of which you speak?

Thinking also that if we get Uncle Ken back to make the signings then maybe giving passing of Danny Bergara that we get Weaver in as manager, given he will work with whatever players are signed up to the club, without question.

Look at the players we signed
Lawlor
Wright
Whiteman
Marquis
Andrew
Mason

All players that we could develop and make into regulars.

We’ve gone from that and an obvious strategy to panic loan signings and last min free agents

i'd count Anderson in this and we came close to Houghton too which is another in the same mould showing we had a plan a template for the players we go for rather than a lottery of deadline day where sensible clubs tend not to do well

Go and support Bury. Their overspending will make you happy.

I can definitely buy Clarke being on over £25k a week, the wages have got silly at Championship level and he probably got a good contract boost after 19 goals the previous season, then an increase based on promotion this summer. He's clearly on enough to feel as if having a few months sat in the reserves is worth doing.

I just don't understand why everybody seems so concerned over the money. Do people seriously think that the board will be sat there rubbing their hands that they've hung on to the first down payment of the Marquis money? The 1st payment won't be very much, the rest will be spread over the length of his contract, and other sums depend on how well he does. It's just a ridiculous immature statement to make.

Personally, I think they'll be more worried that DM hasn't spent the money they gave him.

You said the same for McCann (under-utilisation of budget). I am not saying it is not true, just very hard to appreciate particularly when Moore comes out in the media strongly suggesting that we need to strengthen.

It isn't just the manager's responsibility to spend the money. If he admits we need players, but he can't get them through the door - he clearly needs help and coordination from someone with a strategy, or perhaps a role that is not being filled currently at the club.

The concerning thing is if we’ve been agreeing fees with clubs why haven’t we been able to secure these players.
I would imagine Moore says who he wants and then it’s upto someone else to get that player.
He said he wasn’t happy with the squad and wait until 5 today to see what we look like so he must’ve been expecting new incoming players.

Also it will be two summers on the trot where different managers won’t have spent the money made available to them.
