Never liked the badge to be honest.  Keep the viking and the basic design certainly, but a stylised line drawing like the depiction of Derby County's Ram would be a great improvement IMO.
I couldn't think of anything worse done to the logo, it has class. Someone will be suggesting adding a fish pout or worse, the fingers on the chin pose. It's class exactly as it is, perfect.

Entitled to your opinion, BRR.  But that's all they are.

Vikings not associated with the town? The Vikings named Danum, Danecastor when they settled here.

Plus we've had the badge since 1972 now, even though Doncaster is no Viking town, the badge is now synonymous with the club and fits with the name Rovers

It is a viking town though. Granted, the Romans settled here first, although it was mainly just a garrison on the River Don.
Look at the viking names around the area;
Scawsby
Scawthorpe
Warmsworth
Conisbrough
Sprotbrough
Balby
Hexthorpe

Thorpe, Worth, Brough, By are all Viking name suffixes. I forget now but they all mean something.

A read a Yorkshire viking book years ago but I'm sorry I can't remember the name of the book or the author.

I know there is a viking burial site just outside of Sprotbrough called King Hengist Wood.

Out of interest, on a History of Doncaster website, I found a piece under the heading of Viking Adwick le Street which gives evidence to Vikings settling in Doncaster and surrounding areas.

Doncaster is of Saxon origin actually. DON being the name of the river and Caster meaning stone fortification

Well it's not my list mate but I thing you're right. Also "Brough" is also a Saxon word from the root word "burg" meaning fortified settlement

Did you know........

Early settlers in Doncaster (Danum) used to drink water directly from the River Don. Many of them used to get the runs. It was discovered by an eminent local physician that the Don water acted as a laxative, and discovered this was because vast amounts of Castor oil was present in the water. In order to treat the affected people the physician obtained land in the local village of Wheatley and built a treatment centre there.
The ‘Don castor oil infirmary’ was born.

Mmmm, just done the same thing.
The green and yellow badge that you mention has a 1967 date on it.
I don't recall seeing that badge before.
