The Rochdale goal
« on February 08, 2020, 05:21:11 pm by Filo »
As good as they’ve been this season, Wright and Anderson were awful for that goal, one went left, one went Right and the door was wide open for the lad to score!

I don't agree. Massive holes in midfield all game, and the lad just ran into it.

Then someone has to close him down instead of opening the door wider

Maybe the player who sits in front of the back four ?

We’ve conceded quite a number of goals this season when the opposition has run straight down the middle of the pitch unchallenged.

Not sure I am a fan of 4 attacking midfielders and only one holding

The holes were there in the first place because they were tikker takkering it around our centre midfield all game. We couldn't get a hold on it, they did.

We were poor in midfield all game, Gomes played some decent balls through on occasion, but im not quite sure what Whiteman did, the game passed him by, we miss Sheaf he links it all together. Hard to be too tough on individuals as the whole team were just not at it, including Dieng- and that's rare. It was a tough watch.....

Although he became the pantomime villain, I thought the dale keeper was very good, assured under pressure and good ability with his feet - if we can't sign Dieng, I would go for this lad, the best ive seen for a while.

Got another year on his deal with Brighton.

Maybe Whiteman needs someone pushing him for a starting place !
And Anderson should be the captain in my opinion.....a real leader

Get back to 4231 formation. Sheaf in for Gomes. Gomes needs to get on the weights if he's to become a center mid. Currently too weak.

Every set piece was straight down their keepers throat .. easy pickings for him.

Isn't the captain only someone who has a chat with the ref? Surely you want leaders all over the pitch?

The Rochdale goal.........was like watching the parting of the waves.
From the South stand we could see it happening right in front of us.
I see that Gomes is getting some stick on here tonight but for me he was better than Whiteman today.

If you do not have a settle team this will always happen (change for the sake of change does not work)

Tactics were wrong Ramsey was awful
Never looked comfortable at any time , Whiteman had to do too much on his own
and clearly missed Sheif playing along side .

Stupid mistake by Halliday. Kamikaze tackle attempt 45 yards out with no cover behind him. The lad just needed holding up.

It happens.

I don't know even now if Coppinger can play 2 games in a week, if I was pushed I would say he definitely can.
I know now for certain Gomes cannot, he was blowing out of his backside well before they scored that goal, and his effort to close the runner down was poor.
We paid the price of splitting up one of the divisions best set of midfield players. Before January not one person, or very few on here mentioned new midfielders, yes cover for them, but not replace. Strikers and cover for wide players the main requirement on here.
Well we have got the strikers, and we have muddied the waters in midfield, with players of little experience, and not as much skill as the players (Coppinger and Sheaf) watching on the bench.

Tough one isnt it, how many attacks has he started winning that?  Fine margins.

No Ben Sheaf on at the time.  That’s why he is needed imo.
Although it worked at Tranmere don’t think you can play both Gomes & Ramsey at the same time.
Too light weight having them both.
Gomes was poor today and Ramsey just not involved enough. Only Whiteman playing at times.
Hence Rochdale dominated possession.

Surprised DM didn’t change it at half time.

Cov, sunderland and now today.   Playing running and unleashing a grass cutter.

All should have been challenged but each time we stood off

Concerninganner for Seny to concede to.

We were awful today.   I have been about times and still to witness a good display

Seny should save that. He's taken a step to the left just before he strikes it. It wasn't a worldwide strike.
