Much better

Much better performance. Second half especially. I saw some passion and heart out there, just sadly lacked quality. However, play like that I do think we will beat a few teams.

Agreed. I enjoyed watching the effort and we were hard done by there against a team with resources that dwarf ours. Credit to McSheffrey and the team, and to the fans for getting right behind the efforts of the team.

First half we weren't great but I can't fault that second half effort.

Harsh result, that one. Although if we're honest, they created far better chances than we did. There was some steel in the performance that has regularly been missing so far, but we have got a long way to go to dig ourselves out of this.

If we had lost that game 3-0 we couldn’t have complained. They cruised round in second gear after their trip to Sunderland on Saturday. We were awful again and gamestate played a part in us looking better in the second half.

Gaz,
You’ve got to take into account the two lineups, there’s no way you thought looking at those lineups that we would outplay them or we’d create more chances than them.
With that lineup I thought it was a great performance, especially in the second half.

Oxford as good as anyone in the league,
Play like that against Shrewsbury and we win

I’d agree with that. Looking objectively they deserved it on chances. But we’re not objective and that was a better and more spirited performance than we’ve seen too often. And for that I feel we were hard done by.

But we actually come out with a modicum of hope and I’ll take that.

A much better performance (individual errors aside) than I’ve witnessed for a while against a very good outfit, especially second half.

So pleased Horton scored the cracking equaliser to cap another impressive game.

Yes Oxford had the better passages of play & opportunities to put the game out of sight, but to lose the game with 3 minutes of normal time to play will be a bitter pill to swallow for the lads.

It’s not going to get any easier before the new manager/coach comes in & the January transfer window comes around, but we have to maintain the endeavour we showed tonight in the remaining 4 fixtures of this year in our attempts to remain in the division.

I very much doubt it. The laughing stock is the fans who think like that.

Most football fans have been through tough times at some point, including bigger clubs than us. What goes around comes around.

Second half was slightly improved, but let's be honest that first half was shocking. It was like we were playing Barcelona. Allowed them to skip through our defence like a hot knife through butter countless times. Very lucky not to be dead and buried by half time.

Dodoo and Hiwulu looked a bit lively when they came on. Would like to see them both start on Saturday. Think we've given Cukur enough of a chance, but he's offered nothing to our side.

We looked slightly better second half because they sat in and we played a bit in front of them. We also brought on two better players than we took off so had to improve to some extent.

We may beat Shrews at the weekend but we would need another couple of bodies back to help out.

Don’t like slagging our players but the new look Thiago is worse than the old one

Well I think McSheffreys post match talk in the dressing room will be just as important as the prematch.

He just needs to focus on the positive stuff and make sure they carry that into the next game.

I agree,
But thought on quite a few occasions we also found space in the pocket between their midfield and defence, by winning the ball back much higher up than we’re used to.

Cukur shouldn’t play for us again,
I think Rowe and hiwulu off dodoo is our best bet,
With Galbraith, close and maybe hasani if close isn’t fit.
Knoyle as wing back will make a difference with owolu in the back 3

Seemed to get after the ball so much better 2nd half which in itself is an improvement. The quality of Hiwula and Dodoo again let us down massively. Cukur should be shipped straight back to Watford in January. Pointless having him.

I spent time watching cukur in the first half in particular. It’s always difficult playing as a lone striker, so you must get back and help out when needed. Time and again, he showed he seems to be completely unable to get goal side of his man and do what I call basic defensive positioning. His positional awareness seems totally bereft.
I constantly find it bizarre that a lad who is well built, like he is, fails consistently to put himself about.
I can see why he has gone out on loan. But we are carrying him. And that’s a big statement for a team that is suffering as we are.

Thought we were lucky not to be 4/5 down to be honest but much better second half, all I ask for is effort and the lads gave plenty tonight.

Thought Oxford looked a quality side, really envious of their football especially first half.

Hasani and Horton got skinned everything the wade men went at them. The are both very poor. Cukur just non existent. I though Smith did ok and worked hard.

I agree. A bit of heart and effort goes a long way in this league. That said, there is a clear lack of quality in key areas. Just to add, what a useless streak of p**s that referee was.
