Probably the worst kept secret
« on December 28, 2021, 09:52:39 am by phil old leake »
If the new manager isn’t GMc does anyone have any idea who the other candidate is/might be

Not speculation.  Has there been anything realistic leaked from anywhere

One word I think. NO from what I can see.

But I think it might have been Trollope. Now that’s just a gut feeling. I know nothing more than you.  ;)  :)

I recall Phil there was talk of two ex prem candidates?
If it is GM, no disrespect to him, but the rest was just a bloody charade.

I don’t necessarily agree with this. You don’t appoint someone just because once upon a time they managed in the premier league, or because people will know their name. I think it’s entirely plausible that the process determined that McSheffrey is the best / most viable candidate based on the ideas he has moving forward. However the way it’s dragged out has created a cloud of negativity that’s going to be hard to shift now. That’s a real shame and it’s particularly unfair on McSheffrey himself, who just wants to do a good job and deserves support.

If GMcS has half a brain cell, he’ll continue his good work with the U18’s.

I’m with you Alan. I would expect he’s not scratching his ass for a penny and he did say at the start he liked the idea of the stability of the U18s as managers get the sack. I think if I was him I’d stick.  Good luck to him whichever way it goes
The one thing I think he he has done is prove the difference changing the manager can make.  It’s not been miraculous but the team do seem to be improving with a different management style

Gm may be a lovely bloke, and his ability to manage a junior team is with out question. A big step up is appealing, but it could be a very sobering experience.

The man trying to rescue a sinking ship can not be blamed for the actions of the man that scuttled the ship in the first place

Think if GM takes this job he is either very brave or very stupid.
This could set his coaching career back big time.

If he takes it he will get my 100% support but I honestly think it is a mistake considering him with us in this current situation.

He is doing a great job with Frank Sinclair with the youth set up and that is the area the club needs to focus on. So why upset the status quo in that part of the
Clubs operation. To me that could be a huge blunder.

We need experience if it means paying another £75.000 a year or so on top of what the salary is, then that could be the best money they could spend and in the long term save the club 5 times plus that in gate receipts.
How many season tickets will we sell if we are relegated?

Trollope for me if I had a choice on the names banded about.

If it’s Gary Mac then please appoint Adkins as DoF think he would be well suited to that role. If not him then someone of a similar ilk.
GM will need someone to lean on big time and I seriously hope the board realise that.

Fingers crossed the right decisions are made because the club is at a cross roads and if we take the wrong turning at this juncture it is going to be an awful long way back.

I agree with a lot of what has been said above about GMc.  I would say from listening to him he seems quite confident and does come across as his own man

I can't believe anyone seriously thought it would on a non-match bank holiday.

You title the topic the worst kept secret and then ask if anyone has any idea who the other candidate might be.  Sounds to me like it's a very well kept secret.

Not GM or they would have announced it after the Sunderland game, just want to buy a bit more time so it never looked bad on GM

It maybe the delay is down to the presumption that another lock down is about to occur and the financial position could change . Just a thought .

Or perhaps they offered it to Gary Mc and he turned it down as the salary was not much more than his current job so the board are having to follow different options. Maybe ?

Maybe they're waiting to see how much the gas and electric bill is going to go up by and how much salary they'll have left to offer a new manager? :silly:

Anton I take it you go to matches which unfortunately I am unable to

My assessment is based on what I read on here and from the Free Press

Are you saying I’ve got the wrong idea and we haven’t improved at all under GMc and are as bad as the teams Welles’s put out

If I’m being honest, there hasn’t been a great deal of difference, even wellens got the odd tune out of us. But the reality is we’ve been schooled twice in his short spell, one of those by a league 2 side.

It’s very difficult to judge given the players he’s got available and I genuinely don’t know how much better he would do if players were available. Has to be said that the set up/shape against Sunderland was diabolical though.

To be honest I’d have thought with a new fitness coach we would look fitter, not convinced we do, although in mitigation there was the recent covid episode
