There is a setting somewhere, that allows you to play the hard version.

The NYT changed the word due to it featuring in a controversial court case that's currently in the news in the USA.
God knows whats wrong with Yanks that they felt the need to change the puzzle.
Especially when I got it, despite the Yank spelling!!

The "hard" setting just means that you have to use all your correct guesses in your next guess (so you can't chuck in a random word just to eliminate possible letters).
