Adam Clayton

A very good positive interview given by Adam Clayton on DROS

He will be a massive influence on the younger players I feel going forward.
Big player for us next season. We need leaders on the pitch and off it and he is a start.
We need 2/3 more big characters in that dressing room this summer.

If he sticks around I could see him doing a job next season in L2. Visibly the only player trying to get everyone going after we went 2-1 down on Friday. He had a slow start to his time with us but starting to look a bit more lively.

He is a good signing, it just took time to get him back to full fitness, because of the situation we’ve been in.

Should be made captain next season, only one you can hear on the pitch!

Or thinking that's when his rolling 12months contract "runs out" ?

Just listened to that interview and he came across well. Provides some positivity for next season if he says the visible improvements are being made in the training sessions.

The team including Clayton and Bostock have looked more competitive but, we know what areas need to be properly addressed down the spine of the team.

If we finally resolve the weaknesses at both ends of the pitch, then GM has every chance to succeed.

Yes, there's definitely potential there for Clayton as captain material. We need players of the same stature and character in defense and offense too.

Just really hope Anderson and John at least can put this sorry season behind them and start afresh.

You do realise that you can sack someone before the end of their contract don't you?

A 12 month rolling contract means he always has 12 months left. If he is sacked at any point then we will always have 12 months salary to pay up. But it means we are never more exposed than 12 months in terms of a pay off.

Yes you certainly can, do you think that was what was being alluded to? I wonder how much it would cost with a 12 month rolling contract to sack someone could it be a years wages?

It could also be worded that if he was sacked then he might get, say, six months on full pay, three months on half pay and say, three months on a quarter pay.
It may not be a year on full pay.
None of us know but it has been done like that elsewhere.

I'm not sure how greatly it matters either. McSheffrey is allegedly on the same wage as Richie Wellens, and we had to pay up his 12-month rolling contract when he was sacked him in December.

Agreed RA.
But of course we don’t know whether that pay up was 12 months of full pay or otherwise.
Neither should we have the right to know of course.

Thought he had probably the best game for the Rovers since he came here. Kept running and running today.

Been great since he got match fit, shame the games have run out that bit too soon for him & Bozzie.

Must have been his parents giving the award.
He was possibly our worst player.

Captain next season for me.  Sick of saying if's but no doubt we've improved since he got fit.

Clayton has steadily improved as his fitness has improved and today he was very good.
Should be good for us next season and definitely captain material.

Pleased with what I am seeing with Clayton. Next week I'd be giving Horton a go again. No point playing Jackson.

12 months paid up to RW, I think that’s wrong.
He got a job quite quickly & I feel certain it did NOT cost us that much at all.

Good grief they pay tea ladies well these days. Our manager will be on about the same as the Prime Minister gets I would guess.
I have no knowledge but would be surprised if I am way off the mark.

It's Clayton and Bostock that have improved the players around them too.

The intelligent weighted passes both play at times makes it so much easier for the receiver and invites them run on to the ball. The first goal yesterday was a sublime through ball into the space for Knoyle which invited him to cross it first time. For once the cross was on the money.

The second started with a deft round the corner pass from Bostock to Smith which invited him to advance. The good thing to observe at that point was the movement of Griifiths and Martin. Reo made himself available for Smith and we great awareness he moved the ball on with a perfectly weighted ball for Martin who didn't even have to check his stride.

If you're looking for evidence of improvement transferring from the training ground to the pitch, look no further. It's a positive sign that the new personnel brought in are having an effect.

It really could be the changes that are needed have already been made, and perhaps Copps appointment was the final major piece. Who knows but there's some seeds of recovery.

He now is probably working hard to persuade those key players to stay and have a good crack at promotion next season and build something that doesn't stop there.

Can he do a selling job to Martin and Smith maybe to be bigger fish's in a smaller pond rather than visa versa?

You would hope Copps with his experience of his journey via Newcastle/Exeter/Rovers could be quite influential to these young players.
