Respect to the bloke for being a trialist at 33 years old ex Premier League player- this tells me he doesn’t see himself finished yet he wants to continue & maybe that could be with us. The only reservation I’ve got in signing him our midfield would look pretty old and could it last the distance in a tough 46 game season?

I agree with the sentiment and it is factually correct he is an ex-Premier League player…but that amounts to 6 games in his entire career, half of which were substitute appearances.

CBCB, I remember Copps talking about Bobby Robson giving him his PL debut and him being a team mate of Alan Shearer.
His (Copps) PL career consisted of one sub appearance but he was a great player for us at our level(s).
Perhaps Tomlinson could do a good job for us.

Could be that. Could be he spunked his money away and still needs a wage.

Tomlin wasn’t fit when he was 23 never mind at 33. Horrific signing if it comes off.

Smacks of when McCann signed his old mate Paul Taylor or when Saunders signed Lee Fowler.

The classic of the genre was Saunders signing Robbie Blake (7 sub appearances, no goals).

Paul Taylor always looked like he was homeless living in a shop doorway

It'll be a long time until Rovers sign a player of John Oster's ability again.

It was SOD’s vision which transformed Oster into a central midfield playmaker  if his previous managers had seen this he would’ve had a stellar Premier League career rather than a limited one as a winger

Oster was younger and played over 30 games for Palace the season before.

Tomlin not worth the wages if he’s playing <10 times in the season. Can’t see him fitting in to the system either.

Talented player but there will be another L2 club for him.

He had his best ever game for us at Selhurst Park in a 3-1 win.
He was the best player by a mile that day. He ran the show.

I think a few on here need to be a bit realistic, we're now a 4 tier club, we will struggle to attract quality players because of that, it makes sense for us to think about this type of player, we know he's had a fitness issues all his career but when he's played he's made the difference on many occasions with his extra quality that we as a squad have very little of.

If he's not demanding stupid wages and we can get 15 games out of him it may well be a price worth paying for a team like ours in the position we are in.

Depends on his wages. They will not be many technically better players in L2 than Tomlin. Worth a punt if he’s only wanting minimal wages

He was at Cardiff and was a wasted talent. The games he did play, he was by far the best player on the pitch. Ability wise he is or was a PL player…. commitment and manageability he’s about league 1/2
If he does sign it’s a hell of a coop as ping as he hasn’t piled the weight on he will be class for Donny

This is a tough one. I can see where Gaz is coming from - that on the face of it it looks a nonsensical move for us. But there’s the nagging ‘what if’ factor. He’d arguably be the most technically gifted player in the league and surely any club would want that. But why didn’t he make an impact at Walsall? And why did he look so out of shape? Is he motivated now for one last shot in the later stages of his career, or is he a risk that we can’t afford to take. I don’t know the answers.

Very good player, fans favourite at Posh, few years ago now like, and like Jonathan,Im worried about his lack of games at Walsall, apparently hit with an injury spell while there.I will wait and see what GM decides and hope he gets it right.Too risky for me,but maybe a month to month contract if other clubs think he is too much of a risk.

Oster had the uncanny ability to look poor, good and a world beater in the same game . Almost every game he played for Rovers. Overall his good or better far outweighed the rest.

Smacks of when McCann signed his old mate Paul Taylor or when Saunders signed Lee Fowler.

Absolutely. What a midfield that was.

If Tomlin was Number 23 on saturday then his touch and passing looks a cut above anyone else on the pitch. As someone else already said surely he's got to be worth a punt over another rubbish loan who adds nothing. See highlights here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cGx5Zsy1UVQ

I'm sure GM & Copps are better placed than any of us to make a judgement on Tomlin.

It took longer than we would like for Clayton to get up to speed but the offer of his contract now looks a good one.

There's always an element of risk so I guess that would be reflected in any contract offer IF he proves worthy.

Of course Tomlin will have a big say in this too. We may have other priorities so I'm sure we'd all like to see those nailed down first.
