Mentioning Hartlepool & our liking for ex players as manager - wonder if Copps is priming Graeme Lee up.

Hartlepool have sacked their manager

Guess who we are playing midweek at their place on 4 October…?

They won't need any 'new manager bounce', that's for sure.

Is Appleton still out of a job? We should just go and get him although having already been looked over twice he might not want it.

If he'd come it's a no brainer.

He’s in the Championship with Blackpool. Zero chance of him coming to us in League Two, even if there was a vacancy.

I’ve got a good mate who’s a Lincoln supporter and he said when Appleton was there the football was dire and boring

Billy Davies would get us out of this division.

And before anyone says ‘we couldn’t afford him’, he’s a football manager who is out of work. He has recently unsuccessfully bid to become manager of Hearts.

He’s a footballing man desperate to get back into the game & he knows the longer he sits at home ‘out of the game’, the harder it will be for him to get back in as his stock diminishes.

He’ll rattle a few cages here that’s for sure, but given the apathy we appear to have fallen into that might be just what we need to galvanise our club.

If you don’t ask……

He’s not managed a club for over 8 years. I think he’d most likely be a terrible option.

Billy Davies hasn’t had a job in almost 10 years and was a dinosaur even back then.

That “recent” Hearts interview was over 5 years ago…

Need a manager up to date with modern methods and tactics. It’s a fast paced game even down at this level now.

If I ever had the job to search for a new manager my main criteria would be to do my homework and look at games a particular manager who was gettable was losing and how he went about fixing it .

Last Tuesday night Port Vale came to Oakwell and for 65 minutes they were getting a real chasing , our midfield three of Kane , Connell and Luke Thomas are as good as there is at this level .

Vale were chasing shadows with a combination of our poor finishing and some excellent goalkeeping plus resilience keeping them from a real hiding .

The Port Vale manager Darrell Clarke on 65 minutes made some changes and changed tactics and they started to get some possession and a threat which resulted in them equalizing late on .

Seriously impressive stuff to be fair and whilst I wouldn't go as far as to say they warranted a point they bloody got one thanks to him .

Yesterday at Cambridge whilst leading 1-0 we were seriously under the cosh at the beginning of the second half , Cambridge went direct and route one and we were really clinging on as the ball was coming in from the wide areas .

We then lose keeper Brad Collins to a broken nose and concussion and five minutes after that defender Liam Kitching gets a second yellow and he's sent off .

I'm thinking take a forward off and bring a defender on from the bench .

No Duff goes to a flat back four and brings striker Norwood on , I'm scratching my head .

We go on to completely dominate the last 30 minutes , score two more goals and it's as comfortable a three points even with 10 men you'll ever see , extraordinary .

I'm thinking we've got a good un here and I dare say Port Vale fans think the same .

Duff and Clarke started somewhere before they landed their current roles .

I get the interview process , I get the win ratio , style of football and what have you .

However does any club actually do the complete homework .

As I say you learn more about a potential managers ability when they are losing games and judging them by how they fix it even if they still lose the game .

Just my theory mind .

Not bad this, 18 days into September and we want to sack a contender for the manager of the month in August, Where was all the noise a fortnight ago?

Some of us who identifed GM's persistent managerial flaws early into his job were on here making a noise a fortnight ago, despite results, incase you have forgotten. You certainly noticed at the time.

GM was as clueless when amassing the points we have now as he's always been.

Brian you can’t defend the shambles we witnessed in the last 2 games.

We have good players who need turning into a team. At the moment we don’t look remotely like a professional football team.
We did at Northampton and we have fleetingly for some part of the previous games.
GM should now have us playing like a well oiled machine but we look as though the engine has almost totally seized up.

If GM is going to get his P60 and I don’t see it happening yet, then I would head hunt Micheal Flynn who got the Walsall job not long ago after leaving Newport.
He is a realistic target who I would assume consider DRFC a step up from the Saddlers.

Think he would be a good fit for us. Would definitely get a tune out of our current squad which is much better than the one he had at Newport where he did very well on a small budget. He would have a much better squad to work with than the current one at Walsall also.

What does anyone else think. There is not a huge amount of choice that’s realistic other than has been’s who are out of a job currently.

Matt Gray at Sutton United has done a very good job down there .
