And support is coming from those you forsook Steve ............''‘Civilised European nations’ sack striking workers, do they, Grant Shapps? What nonsense''Polly Toynbee''A sharp riposte came from the European Trade Union Confederation: no, this anti-strike law puts the UK right outside the mainstream, its general secretary, Esther Lynch, has said today. The UK already has among the most draconian restrictions on the right to strike in Europe. The UK government’s plans would push it even further away from normal, democratic practice across Europe.” No country – none – has a law that allows a striking worker to be sacked''https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2023/jan/12/european-nations-sack-striking-workers-grant-shapps-tory-culture-war
Hope it's not stretching your grey matter to think about how the rest of Europe could feel about brexiteers voting to leave the humanitarian refugee problem to someone else Steve, but instead of giving Britons the finger and saying deal with it they offer support.
Maybe if you stopped ranting and read what I wrote, if it doesn't make sense to you it's cos you didn't read what I quoted, maybe you can't be helped.

Rail passenger transport should be run as a service to the community and not as a profit making venture with fares designed so it make it a no-brainer for ppl to use it rather than cars. Driverless train systems work ok in a highly controlled environment eg airports etc where 99.9% of passengers have one aim in mind to get where they are going with zero non-passengers around. Having rail personnel on trains and at stations makes travel safer especially for women. When women can travel safely, alone at any time then that is the time to consider staff reductions. My view has always been that a desperate government wants a culture war, ML knows that and so do most of the gov't and it's supporters.
When i worked at Leeman Rd in BR days one of the local RMT convenors told me that they used to have some sort of formulae that they used to work out if any number of strike days would send the formula over the top as in not being able to earn enough money with the required pay rise baked in to make having more strike days off worth while.I would imagine its getting very close or possibly passed the point where the days of pay that the RMT staff have lost cannot be recouped with the required pay rise.Ive spoken to many RMT members about this and whilst they all realise this is happening, the majority want to see it through, for some sort of union win.Are they deluding themselves or are they holding their nerve in the face of intransigent employers and government?
I am a member of RMT and as I work on the railway people from the outside might not realise that the railway relies on overtime to keep it covered as they don't run it with enough staff so rely on overtime to keep it covered. It was suggested by Grant Shapps that they would ban overtime of the railway. All I would say is if they do 'Good luck with that' because if staff decided to just work their booked shifts then the railway would grind to a halt. And GS quoted on an article that he could not understand why working on rest days was 'Voluntary' https://martinwicks.org/2022/08/04/rest-days-are-for-rest-mr-shapps/

Everybody continues working their allocated shifts and watch the railway grind to a halt.
