Gk 1 - lawlor
Gk 2 - Jones ?
Gk 3 - bottomly ?

Rb 1 - loan/permanent
Rb 2 - seaman
Cb 1 - woods
Cb 2 - Anderson
Cb 3 - olowu
Cb 4 - Faulkner
CB 5 - long
Lb 1 - maxwell
Lb 2 - loan?

Cm 1 - Rowe
Cm 2 - close
Cm 3 - biggins
Cm 4 - Westbrook?
Cm 5 - loan/permanent
Cm 6 - loan?

Fw 1 - hurst
Fw 2 - Molyneux
Fw 3 - miller
Fw 4 - Taylor
Fw 5 - loan/sharp?

So it looks like we can count on Westbrooke, Seaman, Jones and Bottomley.

So, for me that still leaves us looking for two known quality signings down the spine in the midfield and striker.

Then perhaps a further two low risk options in areas where McCann feels we need beefing up.

Of course any of the above could be loans.

Gk 1 - lawlor
Gk 2 - Jones ?
Gk 3 - bottomly ?

Rb 1 - loan/permanent
Rb 2 - seaman
Cb 1 - wood
Cb 2 - Anderson
Cb 3 - olowu
Cb 4 - Faulkner
CB 5 - long
Lb 1 - maxwell
Lb 2 - loan?

Cm 1 - Rowe
Cm 2 - close
Cm 3 - biggins
Cm 4 - Westbrook?
Cm 5 - loan/permanent
Cm 6 - loan?

Fw 1 - hurst
Fw 2 - Molyneux
Fw 3 - miller
Fw 4 - Taylor
Fw 5 - loan/sharp?

So now we're looking like this

Gk 1 - lawlor
Gk 2 - Jones
Gk 3 - bottomly

Rb 1 - Sterrie
Rb 2 - seaman
Cb 1 - wood
Cb 2 - Anderson
Cb 3 - olowu
Cb 4 - Faulkner
CB 5 - long
Lb 1 - maxwell
Lb 2 - loan?

Cm 1 - Rowe
Cm 2 - close
Cm 3 - biggins
Cm 4 - Westbrook
Cm 5 - Broadbent
Cm 6 - Permanent/Loan?

Fw 1 - hurst
Fw 2 - Molyneux
Fw 3 - miller
Fw 4 - Taylor
Fw 5 -  permanent/loan?

Possibly three of McCanns eight still to come. I hope we can associate the word Quality and with a least two of those.

Need a 6th forward there to make room for a pacey goal threat on the left and a target man in the middle.

A second left back option probably needs to be a bit more defensively solid than the other full backs like Maxwell and Seaman for balance.

Then a midfielder to screen the back 4.

That would bring total signings to 8 like Jonathan says.

From what I have seen so far I genuinly feel/hope some money is being saved for a proper goal scorer and maybe a big partner up there.

I think the signings so far could be described as sensible/shrewd.

In that list above, now woods is here (new captain for me) I would put both Olowu and Faulkner above Anderson. I think Anderson needs to go.

I'm hoping Taylor gets fit aswell and we finally get to see him perform.

Anderson to go where? He's under contract.

Tom was one of the players GM mentioned in his initial interview. I think you'll find he'll be second on GM's list of CBs every game.

Are people counting Westbrooke as one of the eight, or is he just seen as an extension like Jones, Seaman etc?

In other words in people's eyes have we brought in 4 or 5 of the 8(+) ?

I don’t understand the need for a proven goal scorer to score the main chunk of the team’s goals. They come at an inflated cost and aren’t guaranteed to repeat it elsewhere.

If the team is strong and clicks nicely they can come from surprise sources or be shared out equally across the team. The team will also keep more clean sheets.

Leyton Orient won the league on a solid defence. Their top scorer Smyth got 10 (less than Miller). As did Stevenage’s top scorer Reid.

Hoskins for Northampton and Dennis for Carlisle weren’t that prolific in their careers previously, but they were part of good teams this year.

I think the business has been good so far on the whole.

I’d not count the contract renewals in the total of incomings. The word is we’ll bring in a minimum of (and probably more than) 8 new players. And if any of those on the retained list reject their offers then that total number of incomings is likely to rise further.

As proved when we signed Andy Williams. Never repeated his form with us.

It looks fairly clear now that a decent number of contracted players will be leaving the club, either permanently or on long-term loan. We can’t have a squad as big as it looks like getting without moving out some of those currently contracted.

The 8 will probably be permanent signings and then the squad will get finished with 2/3 loans you’d expect when premier league teams finalise their squads which is usually July time.

Andy Williams was decent for us. Head and shoulders above some of the shite we’ve had up front since him.

I would like to see an established goalscorer to challenge/play with Miller

Tranmere have given 33 year old Kristian Dennis a 2 year deal. Scored 21 goals last season but that’s a poor signing for a poor side.

Miller and Molyneux need someone to play off to unlock their goal scoring potential. Signing a poacher type wouldn’t make much of a difference.

Looks like our media team have been managing the output of the last week or so, with MCanns's interviews about Sterry, Westbrooke, Bottomley and Jones all being filmed at the same time.

Àllegedly McCann has been playing golf abroad so not sure if he's returned yet but hope in his next interview his skin colour is less pasty! Ha.

I wouldn't be surprised if further acquisitions are held back and managed just to keep us waiting a bit longer and allow speculation to grow. Quite likely players will still be on holiday too.

I said something similar on the 'squad location' thread.

All very quiet and low key while McCann been away.

Getting bored now.....anyone know when he is back?!

Who's your forward 5? A striker or a creative wide player, we need both and if both transfer listed lads go then probably a second striker after that.

Our midfield needs a creative spark. Maybe McCann just wants solidity in the middle and the wider players will provide something extra.

Like to see 2 quality midfielders added to Broadbent, to ensure Westbrooke, Biggins and Close are fighting for bench places, as they are too lightweight for lge2, and seemingly can’t protect the defence or create much, as proved last season.
Upfront 2 additional strikers…. One of which is a big nuisance.

Next priority for me is a defensive midfielder. We have been missing this for years and is the main reason the defence has struggled.

Look how important Pratley was for Leyton Orient

From McCanns interview he wants one more in midfield and possibly two upfront. He refers to pace and 'youthness' ? Couldn't quite make out what he said.

I agree with most of that, Baz. However, I've a feeling GM would regard Senior as No 1 LB to begin with.

Of course, a lot depends on performances in training.

Possibly three of McCanns eight still to come. I hope we can associate the word Quality and with a least two of those.
reckon we will be signing 3 more players at least. Another holding midfielder, another striker to compete with Miller and then another winger. That would be the 8 that was mentioned when McCann first arrived.

Then I think later on in the window we will will bring in another attacker who can play wide and through the middle on loan and possibly Another more creative midfielder on loan.
