Still need the Pivot for Midfield and Couple of forwards that can play wide or come inside.

Keepers - done
Defenders - done
Midfield - 1 more needed
Forwards - 1 more needed, 2, if Lavery & Griffiths leave.

Can Taylor be a player we rely on again? If not we are very light on players with genuine pace.

McCann alluded to some pace and youth in attack coming in. JR said another quality forward. Tyler Smith? Would be a miles better signing than Sharp.

I wouldn’t be going into a season expecting 20 starts from him. Think you build the squad and it’s a bonus if he can contribute

We  need a mester in midfield to boss the game, could be our next signing.

So far McCann has recruited players that have tasted success, with other sides. You would like to think he has recruited winners, it looks good on paper, I would like to think he’s capable of moulding a good side out of them.

I think we can get more goals out of Ironside, than he has managed at other sides.
The defensive signings are pretty solid, especially Wood. Goalkeeper I would have liked one of our retained goalkeepers to have left, but the manager must think priorities are in other areas.

We still need that midfield destroyer. I would say another striker. More creativity, we do miss a more mobile Tomlin type.
We have every reason to be optimistic but it will take a lot of hard work as well.

We might need two midfielder mesters, one defensive, the attacking. One to shield the defence, the other to link with the  forward and attacking players.

For me it's not needing a predominantly defensive or attacking midfielder as such, it's an anchor man. The one who's capable of dictating the tempo, gets things going with either short or long passes. We often hear about Transitions and it's generally that first pass when back in possession that sets things off. We need that player with the vision  the know how to protect the ball and deliver it with high accuracy. The Playmaker if you like. Yes, also capable of winning the ball.

We don't need someone to babysit the defence, who should be able to look after themselves.

Biggins and Broadbent are up and down straight line players. The box to box type who should be providing high energy bursts.

Close and Westbrook are ones who can move either way, the jinkers, can feign one way or tother, always on the move finding pockets of space but can drop into defensive shape quickly.

Rowe is somewhere in between, predominantly left sided and at best, provides a goal threat in and around the box. Not sure I would count him as a midfield player, similar to Hurst poisitionally.

Depends then whether we feel we need a no 10, that player with something a bit special. That affects our shape in whether we want to play two up top with wide players or not. Preferable to have the choice mind.

One thing I like about the signings McCann is making is Wood, Ironside, Senior, Broadbent and Sterry have all come with good reviews from the clubs they played with last. Wood everyone knows what we are getting from him proper Mr Professional, but Ironside, Senior and Broadbent all have rave reviews about their attitude and workrate so we should be a high energy team next season.

I think he just mentioned quality forwards lined up as in plural.

All very encouraging so far.

I’d like Rowe shifted into the forwards category, I want to see him in ‘the final third’ this season.
Yes he can do midfield as well of course.

In midfield so far it’s no better than last season apart from young Albert, so maybe need 2 players there. Taylor is just a bonus if he ever comes good, but I wasn’t that impressed when he played. Maybe he’s always been carrying injuries.

It is true that we have not seen anything like the best of Taylor ,but Grant may be able to deploy him better .

Taylor’s asset was pace. However, once he got near the box he seemed to be in two minds what to do next usually resulting in a shot off target or a scuffed shot straight into the keepers arms, or an over hit pass into the area.

For me, he flattered to deceive.

I think Tommy Rowe could play that No.10 role. He’s an intelligent player, always looking to be involved & getting the ball forward. He still has a trick or two in his locker, has a decent shot on him & for his size competes well in the air.

JR..who has not officially re joined the club has said on twitter that we are in for some good players but not Billy, who we had in his prime end quote .That tweet alone has doused the flames of all who read it as being informed comment ( which it may well be ) but that would be the only single leak we have had throughout all these dealings .

I reckon two wide players and he'll have his squad, perhaps one who can play wide and centrally.

Shaping up strong and the pre season should see us going in strongly with a strong squad. We'll not be struggling to fill the pre season games this year.

We’ve got leaders at last, a balanced squad at last, just need a bit of pace up front, we will also be far fitter next season. I’m getting more than a little excited for next season

I'd suggest the squad is now just lacking some pace in attack.

And creativity which we've lacked since Coppinger retired and Taylor Richards went back.

Think out of those Bottomley, Long and maybe Bobby will be going out on long term loan together with Ravenhill, Degruchy, Lavery and Griffiths.

McCann mainly played 4-2-3-1 then 3-5-2, so I do wonder if he'll want that many CBs around in case he switches to 3 at the back.

I get the feeling half of these lads won’t be on huge wages given where they’ve been signed from.

Although it seems like great business so far, I’m hoping a couple of established, experienced football league match winners in the wide areas will finish us off nicely.

A “statement” signing for one of them would be the cherry on top.

This must be the biggest squad we have had on a long time.
