I actually don't think fans are that bothered. When the McCann rumours started there was a huge buzz and everyone on board. I don't see it that way with Sharp. Unless the budget is huge it could take a huge chunk away on someone potentially not capable of doing 90 minutes a game never mind twice a week.

We’d be shoehorning him in. The best way to get more fans on board long term is to build a successful team with a core that can then hold their own next year in L1. We can build an exciting project under McCann. That means smart decisions and a balanced squad. Not making it up as we go along with rushes of blood to the head.

I'd be really happy with Sharp then we would have our experience throughout the spine with Wood, Rowe and Sharp. Sharp at his age is still a better player than Miller.

Agreed - or if not Billy, someone like Lee Gregory at 34 would be ideal

Bit of an odd thing for a club account to put out, very mischievous.

Don't convince yourself he wouldn't be a good signing, he would but it's hugely unlikely.

I found it odd in truth. Still can’t see it in a million years, there again i said that about Grant returning.

Not sure how big mates Copps and Billy are, but certainly a lot of respect between them. Only way it would happen imo is if money isn’t an issue for Billy.

It certainly would put bums on seats if it came off but as I say extremely unlikely.

Still think he will end up at Rotherham.

If Sharp is leaving Blades, I think we would have the biggest pull out of everyone for him. He could 100% get more money elsewhere but we have that connection with him especially with what he went through personally when he was here. I could see him thinking I will finish my career with them if it ain't happening with Blades.

Agree, Prez.  Rotherham would seem a much more likely destination for him given the current status of our two clubs.

I think it will be Blades, Leeds or retirement.

Not saying he wouldn’t be good enough but we could get 2 first team starters on longer contracts who can play 90 mins every week instead.

Agree with the last part.
I don’t think it would be a good use of our budget, as much as I love Billy.

Very competitive league this year and we need the squad as strong as possible, we saw last year the limitations of a weak squad.

However the board could see it as another piece of the jigsaw to win the fans back.

This all been said I really cannot see Billy Sharp turning out in league 2.

Or maybe that was the one of the requests for Bramall from JR that he mentioned in the 18Dapper interview, who knows!

John certainly seems to have been hinting things are getting better/more exciting as if he knows something. We know signing Billy would genuinely excite him.

Agreed, if the money is sensible he'd be a fantastic signing. Could do in L2 what Paul Barnes did for us in the Conference.

I'd be all for getting sharp back, because if we do then it is because we have the funds to do it, i don't think mcann, copps and the powers above are daft enough to blow everything on that 1 player just to get bums on seats.

Mcann has stated he wants 8 players, those will be 8 quality players. So he isn't gonna want to change that to blowing all the money on a quality 37yr old to then fill the rest with whatever dross would be left. Mcann just wouldn't accept and agree to that

It's something like JR would do for DRFC his generosity and love for the club can't ever be in doubt. Some of his decisions sure. Billy in a Rovers shirt would be amazing (not at the cost of the squad budget overall but as a player wow)

Unless Billy is willing to play for about 10pc of what he could get elsewhere, there is no way he is coming here. Not a chance.

Well it won't be Andy Cook - he's just signed a 3 year deal with Bradford so they will be strong again next season, interestingly Dave Challinor, Stockport Manager talking about next season highlighted us and Gillingham as being up there with the likes of Wrexham and Notts Couny

One thing I Imagine it would do is sell another thousand plus season tickets and pay for a bulk of his wages.

If it’s reasonably possible you wouldn’t say no to signing him of course. Any team in this or the division above would have him. Probably a few in the Championship too.

That said unless it’s on a plate I wouldn’t be desperately pursuing him. We’d have to make accommodations in how GM probably wants to play to fit him in. No way he can be a lone striker in a 433 . We’d have to play 2 up with the other one been a runner and quick. We’d lack a target man as Billy is good into feet but not a big player in the air. So you’d almost make the signing of the second centre forward need to be good at everything. Those players are hard to find.

I think Rednapp mentioned Billy for an attention grabber. They are trying to sell tickets he’s just one of a few who are involved using Twitter must be a slow uptake
