There’s obviously been a lot going on the last few weeks to talk about. So have I missed what’s going on with Copps? Has his role officially changed or is it just being kept quiet?
My humble opinion is that club legend Copps has been an abject failure in his assigned role and a waste of a wage. This opinion in no way detracts from my admiration and respect for his playing career.

My take on it would be that talks with McCann and the club were ongoing quite some time before the end of the season, within these talks, I would guess McCann and copps would have been in discussions with the types of players we were to keep, and move on, and also which ones to go for, I’m sure some of the clubs targets would have been shared with grant and he could have taken the names away, analyse them and make a decision on them, then him and the club could move on targets quicker in the summer. I would imagine copps would have been working hard over the end of the season to identify players that would have been within our target budget who were coming up to the end of their contracts and making a player list with player profile to feed into the wider recruitment team. Maybe even putting feelers out to agents to make their clients aware of the interest.
I think you’re spot on Arsenal of the North. The speed at which we have signed players suggests the background work has been ongoing for some time - which also suggests Copps has been heavily involved.
I think Coppinger has been working really hard , on targets got the club for some time . If that wasn’t the case things wouldn’t have gone so quick. He’s probably had a list already prepared, the manager has had a look, liked what he saw and signed them if they’ve fit in with what was looking for. You can see players who have been winner’s previously with other clubs , has been a major theme of targeting what they want. This is how it should be every pre season. It’s all about getting a good pre season in, building understanding and developing team cohesion and confidence in each other.

Which also suggests GM may have been involved in the background prior to Danny's sacking. The speed of GM and the signings is pretty impressive for Rovers recent history
