What a pity the tory party hadn't heard any of this over that past 14+ years, it could have saved them from trashing the economy.Remind me wasn't it the tories that turned london into londongrad?

Based on the above I will have paid a surplus and I'm happy to do so. When times are hared, vote for those who make things better for you. When you're doing alright, vote for those who will make things better for those less fortunate.Unfortunately, the incumbent government's view is "When you're doing well, take as much as possible for you and your pals while telling everyone that the reason the nation is falling apart is that those less fortunate are fleecing the system.

Unfortunately too many people are happy to pull up the drawbridge when they're comfortable and sod everyone else. I've mentioned it on another thread, but at the last GE I heard a bloke on the radio state that he'd always voted Labour but now he's retired he doesn't need them anymore, so was going to vote Tory.

Cloughie was on nearly every other week, but more often than not ranted about Thatcher rather than speaking about football. One Wednesday night he said he had a good salary(in the days before the ridiculous amounts now paid)and had absolutely no problem paying more tax to help the needy in society. In fact he wanted to and proposed more tax for high earners.

Those that wish to pay for tax may get their wish if Labour get in. https://x.com/PolitlcsUK/status/1801196607817302275

I've said a number of times the staircasing of UK income tax isn't the right way, have more brackets and more of a smooth curve.

The argument used to be that it would be too complex for people to follow, but the current system is a mess, and includes ridiculously high marginal rates at the boundaries.

The Brown inspired 10%rate was a good thing for people on low incomes, he should of been more expansive with the rates above.
