by a whisker.Who said the lino was shit ?
A player is in an offside position if he is nearer to his opponents’ goal line than both the ball and the second last opponent. In the definition of offside position, “nearer to his opponents’ goal line” means that any part of his head, body or feet is nearer to his opponents’ goal line than both the ball and the second last opponent. The arms are not included in this definition.
...he had to run 6 yards to get in position to raise his flag AFTER the ball hit the back of the net. There is no way on God's Earth that he could have known for sure that Sharp was offside when Woods's shot came in. And the officials are supposed to give benefit of the doubt to strikers in these circumstances.

In my view, if (and its a big 'IF') Billy was in an offside position when the initial shot came in, the lino should have been waving his flag as soon as Billy moved in to pick up the rebound - not waited until everyone was nearly back at the half way line ready for the restart!! It was also interesting that no Newcastle defenders appealed for the decision. For me, the biggest disappointment this season has been the number of games spoilt by poor officials.
Looking at the print screens of Billy Sharp, you can clearly see that he is fractionally offside as the ball is initially played into the area - therefore, as I suspected initially, the linesman has got the decision correct. However, the defender appears to be tangling with Sharp big style. Is there a case for a penalty? Or has the linesman just spotted the offside first and gone with that decision.Either way, rather than bleating about officials we need to draw a line under this and make sure we get one over on them Dingles on Saturday. There's a point to be proved, considering they've won their last 3 games against us!
If there is a decent ref and decent linos on Saturday, Rovers - on current form- should give the Dingles a right tonking! We've had enough of some very dodgy reffing and it's about time that we had a decent non-homer ref that will let the game flow, and hopefully let the teams create some good football. That should give us the first win over the three fingered inbreds for quite some time. :cheer:
As ROK said in the Star if the lino so clever and managed to see Billy being half an inch offside howcome he never managed to see the arm wrapped round Billys neck
